presentation of the 1200 TIGER EXPLORER 2013

Hinckley's big trail, a serious competitor to the benchmark 1200 GS, is putting forward some serious arguments to conquer the great roads and the great travelers. To enter the hyper-competitive trail-GT segment, where BMW reigns supreme, it needs solid arguments.

Behind its steroid-inflated 800 Tiger XC silhouette, the Tiger Explorer unabashedly embraces sharp angles and long-distance travel. It will be powered by a new 3-cylinder engine of over 1200 cm3. Rated at 137 hp, this block shares very few features with the 1050 powering its sportier sibling. The latter remains in the Triumph range for 2012, and will be responsible for satisfying the clientele of lively trails designed for fast cruising.

The 1200 Tiger Explorer will appeal to long-distance touring enthusiasts. Its 19" and 17" spoked wheels and mixed tires set the tone right from the start: no rally-raiding, just an escapade on dirt roads. And to shake up the segment's benchmarks, the Explorer comes fully equipped: big 3-cylinder engine, new chassis, universal joint and single-arm (according to our information, the whole thing is very similar to BMW's Paralever), traction control, disconnectable ABS, cruise control and coded key (not a moment too soon); all as standard. What's more, all dashboard functions are scrolled via a handlebar-mounted control.
In order to immediately place itself at the top of its class, Triumph has announced that, in addition to the equipment, the factory has worked hard on engine character, comfort and handling.

I own an explorer 1200. good bike, but a bit high and heavy at standstill, making maneuvers perilous. Rating : 5/5
French gilni35 Model 2012
Very nice bike, even if it looks like it's been cloned from its German cousin... Very peppy engine with a hell of a lot of torque.
Minor hiccups noted during the test: very sensitive throttle which can be surprising, especially when going over a bump, rear-view mirrors which vibrate at 130 km/h (was this a bad setting?) fork which tends to dive easily when braking. Apart from that, it's a very pleasant bike that should put its Bavarian friend in the shade...
Rating : 4/5
French Explo Model 2012
Tried and loved. This bike is generous, comfortable, powerful, lively and virile, but without roughness or violence. It's made to go far, or very close, but with pleasure, even in the French horseless version. Rating : 4/5
French Smofa Model 2012
At last, a real competitor for the GS. It's superb, I had the opportunity to try it and I was bluffed! Impeccable handling. Easy to place. Excellent braking. The downside: the center of gravity is a little high when the tank is full.
Other than that, there's nothing to complain about: the BM, with its crazy options, has really aged. Bravo Triumph, another great test ride!
Rating : 5/5
French JACPOT Model 2012
Nice bike with a 3-cylinder engine that gives us hope for torque and length, but it seems to me to be more of a road bike than a track bike, whether on the road or not, and a 20-litre fuel tank compared to the 23-litre of the BMW 1200 GS zt and especially the 32-litre of the 1200 GSA, not so good!
Rating : 4/5

air tank of the old 1200 gs 20 l and not 23 l and the old 1200 gsa 33 l and not 32 l ;) Rating : 5/5
