Essentials
Electric motorcycles have many ambitions. Modest or imposing.
France is playing haute couture with Essence Motorcycles, Harley-Davidson is speculating on its premium side with the LiveWire, and Zero is defending a broader, almost mass-market range. And there are plans afoot to establish a foothold in this field. In the middle of India, a small manufacturer is about to attempt a challenge of a different scale: competing with the small-displacement range. Ultraviolette's F77 aims to bring electric propulsion to the 2.5m class.
Clearly, we can't offer democratic electrics only at the top end of the market. Especially given the taros that go with it. The F77 is more affordable and more urban than its sporty looks. The motor is rated at 34 hp - 24 kW - and a whopping 450 Nm of torque. Converted into mkg, this gives a muscle of 45.9 mkg. The Rocket III, with its 22.5 mkg, can go home.
OK, the Ultraviolette's thruster promises to deliver a massive pulling force. The other data put things into perspective. 0-60 km/h should be swallowed up in 3 sec; 0-100 in 7.5 sec.
Energy flows not only between the motor and the wheel, but also during driving. Three driving modes (Eco, Sport, Insane) will be present, as well as regenerative braking, connectivity, a number of sensors, a diagnostic system, maintenance alerts, driving analysis and a geolocation process.
For once, the projected weight is very reasonable. Less than 160 kilos is quite a performance. As for recharging, it will take 3 hours to fill the battery to 80%. This increases to 5 hours for a full recharge. With the 'ASAP DC Fast Charger', things get much faster. Waits are cut to 50 and 90 minutes respectively. The advertised range is 200 km.
Although the company is backed by the giant TVS, we can't wait to see how this project progresses in concrete terms. How many announcements are made every year about revolutionary technologies and devices that we are promised for tomorrow? And who have only seen the offices of investors....
