presentation of the 1700 BOARDWALK 2014
victory's Boardwalk is a call to all those who want cruising and relaxation. A light breeze around its big Freedom twin, and you can enjoy a ride on the East Coast. A pure cruiser with vintage accents, with a very noticeable work on the wheels. lookez' those beautiful chrome-spoke rims, embraced by the white sidewalls of its tires. Long skirts running down to the road complete the classic styling. In a definition as marked and different as that of the Kingpin it replaces.
overweight? No need to think about it on this kind of machine. Everything is geared towards a smooth ride: 307 kilos on the scales, a car-like wheelbase, a 32° caster angle... Nothing to worry about in terms of stability. In terms of agility, we're on the opposite end of the spectrum from a modern roadster.
No surprises on the technical side: a double-cradle steel frame, one brake disc (300 mm) per wheel, a classic fork, a well-hidden shock absorber and a liner-like wheelbase. Does this remind you of the Judge? Of course: the Boardwalk is based on it. With the fuel tank soaking up a healthy 17.8 liters of benzine, the rider will have plenty of time to appreciate the differences between the cousins.
With its long running boards, ample handlebars and wide saddle, the Boardwalk invites you to take it easy. Aside from the chrome and shoes, the machine remains sober, without any misplaced exuberance. However, there's nothing to stop you going far afield, especially as Victory has included a Light Touring kit to transform it into a... tourer. A windscreen, luggage rack, passenger backrest and suitcases are fitted to extend the range. Lock & Ride components install in seconds, without tools.
The Victory Boardwalk sits just 66 cm off the ground. It's a great way to escape the daily grind to the rhythm of its big 1731 cm3 engine. Just over 90 horsepower and a hefty 14 mkg are on tap. A generous twin that's often compared to Harley's Twin Cam. The latter boasts a stronger, more Old American smell; the Freedom is more reminiscent of Palm Beach, Miami Sun and the Golden Boys states...
