presentation of the Empulse TT 2016
The Victory Empulse TT is a new electric road bike built on the achievements of Victory's research and development to race at the 2015 Isle of Man TT Zero.
it is the first electric motorcycle under the Victory Motorcycles name. It is powered by Brammo technology acquired in January 2015 by Polaris Industries Inc. To be frank, Victory has mostly put its logo on a Brammo Empulse that's barely been tweaked but improved in terms of performance.
the Empulse TT is an electric road bike with a torquey motor and the ability to carve taut lines on twisty roads, while still being a comfortable city bike. The Supersport-style aluminum frame, adjustable suspension and efficient brakes accentuate the performance of this new Victory Motorcycles. This unique motorcycle combines performance with zero emissions.
the Victory Empulse TT is due to go on sale in the USA by the end of 2015. Victory Motorcycles is studying market demand in Europe to decide whether it can go to market there.
joshua Katt, Electric Product Manager, said:"The Empulse TT has been developed as an urban motorcycle, but with a sportier riding style. With Dual-Ride modes (Eco and Sport) and the addition of a gearbox, the Empulse TT is a very versatile motorcycle that can be used in a surprisingly sporty or urban way".
the Victory Empulse TT has some of the DNA of the Brammo Empulse R.
After acquiring the Brammo technology, Victory Motorcycles' engineering team made significant advances in electric technology to create this new model, developed at the same time as the prototype for the "Isle de Man TT zero" race in 2015.
improvements in battery capacity, function controller, and handling were all developed by Victory Motorcycles engineers combining their efforts with the Brammo team.
the Empulse TT reaches 100 mph+ (161 km/h) and features a high-capacity 10.4kWh battery. The "Brammo Power Lithium Ion" battery (made by Brammo) fully charges in just 3.9 hours, by connecting the integrated charger on top of the tank to the mains using the SAE J1772 plug and "Stage 2" charger (240 V).
average range is between 105 and 161 km. Accomplished thanks to gas pedal management and regenerative charging.
Initial tests indicate a range of 152km in town.
Combining a journey at 113km/h on the freeway, followed by city driving, the range is 92km.
drivers can get the most out of the 10.4kWh of electricity stored in the battery with the help of the 6-speed gearbox. The gearbox is a proven and comfortable technology for engaging the electric drive train. Shifting up and down also helps to create regenerative energy (during deceleration), and mimics the engine braking familiar to riders of combustion engine motorcycles. Choosing the right gear for the conditions enables the Empulse TT to use battery power in the most efficient way.
with the engine offering 100% torque at standstill, the clutch is only needed for shifting gears. It's not needed for starting or stopping.
featuring a bespoke transmission, neutral is located between 2nd and 3rd gears; 3rd gear being the one that adapts to most riding conditions.
Riders can switch on the bike, select 3rd gear (without disengaging the clutch) and turn the throttle to move off. Then they can stop (without disengaging the clutch) and downshift from 3rd gear to neutral.
The addition of the gearbox is a positive feature, offering great flexibility and a sporty feel against the competition.
the Empulse TT normally operates in ECO mode, but Victory has also added a SPORT mode that releases 20% more power to the engine. This means more acceleration for the same twist of the throttle.
The rider selects SPORT mode by pressing the start button for 1 second. SPORT mode also increases the amount of regenerative braking, which further enhances the sensation of "engine braking" when the rider cuts off the gas pedal. In this way, the 20% extra electrical energy supplied to the motor is partially recovered by the higher regeneration value.
the battery level is displayed as a horizontal bar with a percentage, on the LCD instrument panel, next to a tachometer. Other information is displayed such as: speed, engaged speed, time, energy in kWh and estimated remaining range.
the Empulse TT may be electric, but it's no less sporty.
It comes with fully adjustable front and rear suspension, inverted front forks and twin front brake discs (Brembo). New aluminum rims have been added, offering the best rake angle for an electric motorcycle.
The result is a stunning bike for both road and track.
from launch, Victory offers accessories such as Victory performance forks and side sliders. A windscreen and large and small side panniers are also available.
