Motorcycle specifications Yamaha1200 V-MAX 1996 In the pantheon

Naked

since its release in 1985, the V-max has been a phenomenon. The kind of motorcycles that are so full of personality, they're impossible to replace. In the beginning, there was the thuggish style, with its impressive V4. The original version was equipped with a very specific fuel system that boosted the engine to 145 hp.

with its 4 carburetors installed in a square layout, the gaseous vein can be gulped by an ingenious process. The carburetors communicate, and when a cylinder is in the intake phase, it recovers the mixture from its carburetor and the one next to it. A servomotor progressively opens a set of butterfly valves.

the first vintage, 1985, was not imported into France, and we had to wait until '86 for the arrival of the hot V-Max, albeit with a restrictor. Deprived of its V-boost when it arrived in France, it still has its prodigious torque and its "hell mouth". While the bike is a real eye-catcher, it's also surprisingly easy to get to grips with, and a real thrill to ride. Fortunately, the forks were replaced a few years ago, to improve handling. But it's not without its faults, and even if braking improved in 1993, it still has to hold back a hell of a lot of weight.

the mill has adapted to various standards (noise and pollution), losing a little of its strength, but not its nature. A good mechanic will be able to give it a little extra care to tone it up. The protection is disastrous, the seat lacks softness, but the machine was primarily intended to show off on a café terrace, and to spoil anything that rolls over a 400m. In any case, with its derisory range, there's no point thinking about riding it all day long, FJR-style. No matter, the V-max is above all a passionate machine. A motorcycle for big hearts and big arms, but above all a legend.

It's still 82 years old on the odometer!!! first VMAX in 1986, I've owned 5 of them and still drive (a little bit!!!!) with an original 1993 30000 km what happiness. Rating : 5/5
I boughtė the bike of my dreams in 1999 new and today I have 54 balais I touch wood and it is tjs lā the beast, with a turn of meter in + (3 times the turn of the earth), of origin with that, tjs of the pleasure that it is for the W or the ballades to make him leave with wisdom obviously... I've been dreaming of this bike since I was very young. Today, at 46, it's a reality. A 1990 model, 28,000km, all of Swiss origin (with vboost)
Well, it's a real pleasure, I really don't regret it. An explosive engine, decent handling (it's not a sports bike, nor a modern motorcycle). It's great for leisurely rides in the mountains, and packs a punch when you need it, even against newer bikes. In terms of fuel consumption, I'm running at 6l/100km at a leisurely pace (legal speed)
I love it....

i would have waited until I was over fifty to finally buy a 1200 vmax
i've been riding this bike since it first came out, and for over a year now, it's been nothing but happiness
excellent in cruising mode, where I manage to get under 8l/100, very playful on small roads, but the most enjoyable are the catapulting sessions when you open up wide.

VMax, it's a myth, I've always dreamed of it and now... here it is... it'll NEVER go away :-)

A motorcycle with a stunning look, an engine you can unleash to show off, a V4 sound that's never been imitated, 30 years and not a single wrinkle. I LOVE Vmax Rating : 5/5

The myth! I've had 2 and 15 years later, I'm in the process of buying a 1999 one. It's a bike of the heart! Only people who have had one can understand and too bad for the others!!!!
Best regards to all bikers.

you don't buy a vmax to drive at 200...or to attack on a downhill...there are plenty of other nozzles for that...a vmax is the nozzle you don't need but which must be in the garage... Rating : 5/5
French Model 1996
Full of defects, shitty range, not flexible... Rotten chassis, random handling... yes, but that's what a Vmax is! And that's precisely why we love it! A hell of a face, it turns heads.
Use it as a second bike. A word of advice: keep it! It's increasing in value. It's a real sculpture.

French magicsenna34 Model 1992
I've never understood and never will understand all the fuss about this bike, because apart from its out-of-the-ordinary looks, I have to admit, it's got nothing going for it. It's anything but a GT. In 1989, I bought a Tomcat. In the spring of 1993, on my way back from Carcassonne to Sète on the A61, I met a guy in a Vmax at the aire des Corbières, where I was doing my bit and so was he. Before getting back on the road (he was heading for Montpellier), we went for a coffee and a chat. By mutual agreement, we decided that we'd pull out all the stops at least as far as Balaruc, the exit I had to take, while he continued a little further along the freeway. We each had a 100hp, but with everything I'd read about the Yamaha, I thought I was done for; well, believe it or not, the exact opposite happened. In terms of both acceleration and top speed, I was ahead. It was only at low and mid-range revs and in the same gears that he had a clear advantage (probably due to his bigger engine, who knows?). As a result, I had to drop a gear to get it back on track and drop it off. I don't know about Vmax, but a 100hp Tomcat's top speed peaks at 260 at exactly 10,000 rpm (with 1,000 rpm reserve), after which it really can't take it anymore, and even at this ridiculous speed, Vmax stayed behind 90% of the time. A final honk of the horn, a final wave of the hand and we parted company as I took the exit ramp for the last 15 kilometers at a leisurely pace. The Tomcat was a good moped. More GT than sporty, despite its looks, it didn't disdain being pushed around. Very comfortable and with a more than reasonable appetite, it was almost the ideal campaigner (chain drive) for long journeys, and how many times did I find myself switching to reserve at around 380kms? The fuel tank contains 22 liters, including 3 in reserve. Everything a Vmax has never been able to do and never will be able to do. So I ask... Apart from showing off, what's the point of this bike? French Facolemaltais
Hi,
i'm a bit late but never mind
I had a VMAX in 87-88 with the VBoost and there, true for the 240 (260 odometer)...AND 15Litres per 100 insured so stop pump every 80km and 1 Dunlop tire in 150 every 800Km (soft rubber)...just with a little windjammer...but I'm not tall and cut like a warthog
In the summer of 1988, I did 4000Km Avignon-Lisbonne AR ..with my cop of the time....12 liters average (the bike not the cop) and with a small 5 liter jerrycan + 1 Metzeler all smooth on the way back
Great moments

THEN I had one without Vboost in '89...it was a piece of crap and not 240!...210 let's say..
But as far as looks go, it's like riding around with a hottie*, who doesn't necessarily fuck well (for the 100hp version) but you get a kick out of just looking at her! that's happiness too

(*which, on the other hand, will end up being a drag in general)

my v max is from '99, so it's full, with the intercoms open, r1 fork, r1 brake, fiber rear bend, 4/1 stainless pot, magical noise, magnificent, it still makes many heads spin! it accelerates like an airplane! dear magicsenna 34, who compares a sports car with a custom! with mine I would have put you down, the vmax remains and will remain a myth that has already lasted for 37 years! while your tomcat has long since been forgotten ... The description is pretty good, but it's true that the handling is old-fashioned, the range limited to 10L in town and 5.5L for a 15L tank, and the 16 A/H battery is too small for this big engine and tends to run down quickly. On the plus side, however, there's that timeless, unbelievable geometry, the insane power - even for the French without the V Boost - and, last but not least, no one will remain unmoved by this extraordinary motorcycle, which will remain a motorcycle icon of the '80s. I have a question... and I address it to the bikers who have done or who ride with the modification

Does replacing the fork with an inverted GSXR fork, as well as the brakes, bring any real benefit over the original?

Is the + of the change worth the - of the stock modification?

I've had it since this winter

After 1,000 kilometers, I'm starting to get the hang of it
It clearly doesn't hold the road, it swerves like crazy, it pumps under braking, if you can call it braking, it consumes fuel with a ridiculous tank, it weighs like a dead donkey, there's no protection, etc? You get ridiculed at the first bend

The sensations are indescribable, like riding a wild horse you're gradually taming
You get on, you ride where the road takes you, and you simply enjoy it..
When you've managed to ride hard, you feel like you've "done something", like a "man's bike"
When I get off, I'm still dreaming for a long time..

i've been riding my steel horse for several years now, and I've heard of the VMAX. Believing myself to be a fan of the beast, I wouldn't swap it for any other bike in the world
Sure, the brakes are just right, sure, it veers off in big curves, but for God's sake !!!! it screams
go out with any 15-year-old beaker and you'll understand why a vmax is a myth!!!!!
it hasn't aged a day
as far as reliability is concerned, I've got 45,000 km on the clock and not a single problem (apart from the 80-euro clutch repairer), provided, of course, that you treat it with the respect it deserves and take good care of it
It's not everyone's bike, and with a few small modifications it becomes unique (at least for your eyes)
See you soon on the roads of the PACA region

I discovered this monster on a Paris street, and immediately fell in love with its curves, its devastating face, its steel trunk and its indisputable character. The second time I heard about it, it was in JBT (Joe Bar Team mdr)merci Bar2 d'avoir mit cette machine de combat en avant dans votre bd. It's heavy, doesn't hold up very well, and you really need to have a heart in your belly in the bends if you're going to wring out the handles with dignity, but what a FEET, a pure moment of happiness. Frankly, it's not everyone's bike, and I wish it a long life full of power and "good drunk on a 400-meter run at a red light". I love the Vmax Rating : 5/5

i discovered this bike in 1988, and I tried it out, resulting in a 15-day suspension.since then, I've been in love with this machine.and in 2001, after much discussion with my wife, I bought a new one.for a long time, I'd go down to the basement to admire it, and it was hard to believe that it was there and mine.she now has 19000km and it's always absolute bliss when I'm on her, even if she's a bit (delicate)moreover she's just been unbridled, which leaves even less room for improvisation.BUT WHAT A FEET.This machine is the talk of the town, which just goes to show the reputation she has. It's not uncommon at red lights for people to ask me if I'm a salesman.BREF I'M STILL LOVING IT. at the risk of repeating what's already been said about this bike, I bought a 1997 V max black model in 2002. You need a tamer's arms to hold the thing, it doesn't turn on its own in corners, but what a pleasure this engine is when it's ridden well, at a standstill you've got a dead horse between your legs, so don't get too big or too young! but as soon as you're on the move, the weight is almost forgotten, and despite the monstrous torque, it's smooth as silk if you don't get too angry with the throttle, the shape of the seat and the riding position are cool, perhaps lacking a little softness under the buttocks, especially for a duo after 2 hours of riding. In short, riding this bike is like trying to gracefully navigate this 280 kg mass of scrap metal, with its indisputable aesthetics and its very pleasant purr Rating : 5/5
