presentation of the YZF-R1 1000 STEEL FIGHTER 2003
Sportbikes transformed into street bikes are a common sight at every rally. But for the Steel Fighter, it's the Yamaha factory that presents its own "steel fighter". For the occasion, the manufacturer asked Boxer Design (who made the VB1) to dress up the R1. An elegant way of selling off stocks of the 2003 sports bike - yes, the 2004 has arrived! At dealerships, the bike is sold with wrist handlebars, for homologation reasons. Fortunately, the flat handlebars are an essential option. For an extra €442, you'll have a beast of the streets. Thierry Henriette's aesthetic work doesn't go overboard, but reveals the R1's natural aggressiveness. Minimalist engine skidplate, radiator scoops and specific fork head. The latter is merely a face mask, sublimating the tigress look of the pistarde. With its handlebars, the bike changes radically. Gone is the discomfort of the broken-in-2 position. Of course, the bike remains as stiff and rigid as ever, but you're much less tilted to the front. The more you play, the more you want to play. A new identity for the naturally ferocious R1.
