presentation of the FJR 1300 A 2013
what is the road? The long one, the one that lasts to the end of the horizon. The definition can vary greatly depending on the bike you're riding. On a hypersport, it's pretty close to an ordeal. On a custom bike, it's cool or even old school. In GT, you need to combine comfort, rigor and a bit of sportiness to have fun. Yamaha's answer is the FJR 1300. Born almost a decade ago, it had to raise its sights in the face of competition that has been on the move for some time.
the FJR is a vessel, both powerful and imposing. But that shouldn't condemn it to restraint in its expressions. This "Phase 3" displays a generous dynamism that is frankly a pleasure to detail. Its big-boy look gives way to that of a pussycat; its sides have been given a new identity while providing extra protection; its turn signal warts have disappeared in favor of rows of LEDs; there's nothing to complain about. This facelift is a real success.
big bike, big engine. The FJR's already generous 4-cylinder engine receives a few mechanical upgrades and a major electronics package. The engine block now features linerless cylinders with ceramic plating. The new system involves applying the treatment directly to the block alloy. The main benefit: better heat dissipation.
Redesigned throttle bodies, an improved exhaust system with half the number of catalytic converters required, a ride-by-wire YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) - these are just a few of the components that contribute to more progressive acceleration. As a bonus, a ladleful of extra power (2 hp and half a kg).
Like a modern Superbike, a GT is now obliged to offer an array of electronic crutches.the FJR was equipped only with ABS with combined braking, and a robotized gearbox for the AS version. Now it's catching up with silicon and software. For 2013, the FJR 1300 is equipped with disengageable traction control (TCS), cruise control, a choice of two maps (D-mode) and automatic suspension adjustment (AS model only). Let's take a closer look:
- TCS: After the Super Ténéré and the R1, traction control is now available on the FJR. When the rear wheel begins to slip, the system instantly adjusts ignition timing, injection volume and throttle opening to maintain traction. The driver can activate or deactivate it at will.
- Cruise control: activated and adjusted via two buttons on the left-hand switchgear. The speed can be set in 2 km/h steps, from 50 to 180 per hour, in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear. If necessary, simply touch the brakes, clutch or gas pedal to deactivate.
- D-mode: or how to offer dual injection mapping. In "T" mode, the arrival of power is in a cool version, more suited to city driving or long journeys. The "S" mode engages a sportier character, to take full advantage of the beast's 146 horsepower.
choice of suspension... or not
for this new generation, you won't get the same suspension profile at all, depending on whether you choose the standard (A) or robotized (AS) version. The FJR 1300 A is fitted with a standard 48mm-diameter fork, featuring some modified parts for this phase 3: aluminum piston and plunger, revised spring rates. The rear shock absorber also receives some minor modifications.
apart from driving pleasure, what else do we expect from a GT? Protection to match, and practicality for long stages. The electric bubble has a new shape to limit air turbulence, its support has been simplified, and its adjustment speed increased (2 times faster). A number of components have been updated: the kickstand, the commodos, the rear lights, the seat side cladding, the passenger footrests, and above all a completely redesigned instrument panel. An analog tachometer on the left, two digital displays on the right. All the information you need is elegantly grouped together.
Side panniers are still standard, holding 30 liters each and a maximum of 10 kilos. To round out your capacities, check out the optional extras: Akrapovic exhaust system, 50-liter top-case, high bubble, toe guards, hand guards, etc.
fine styling touches, a seriously enhanced technical package, improved power and flexibility - Yamaha has done its utmost to restore the appeal of its FJR 1300. In terms of performance, the FJR has already proved its worth; this version III is equipped to put it back in the limelight. The electronic suspension version makes it even more interesting.

sorry, I'm a bit off-topic about this FJR 1300 which looks interesting as a "multi-purpose"...
today 68 years old, living in Mauritius, I travel on YBR125.
in the 80s, all second-hand, I had the black 750XS from 78 and then the same one in red (4hp, electron. ignition). Rating : 4/5 Participate in the conversation
the 2nd in 2 years, unfortunately broken after an accident; I'm going to buy a 3rd because I haven't found anything better; reliable, comfortable; long trip to Eastern Europe (Prague, Budapest, .....) 6000 kms in 3 weeks with a passenger; no problems. Rating : 5/5 Respond to camrom
at first everything went perfectly
until 15 days ago the orange gearbox light started to come on, and then as soon as we were under power it went into freewheel.
after reprogramming at the dealership: perfect
but on sunday, on a trip to saint Malo, the problem returned
the return journey was catastrophic: it jammed at all gears. after many stops, the indicator light wouldn't go out, and it came to a complete stop: no way to move. assistance and misery.
she's off to YAM this APM, and I'll be sure to keep you informed of any further developments... to be continued! Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation

I quite agree with you about Yamaha's consideration for their premium customers.
I bought mine at Yam Sud in Montpellier, to quote them.
I was supposed to be invited to the presentation of the AS version on the Mireval circuit.
But Jérémie, the nice salesman who sold me mine, left for Suzuki and since then I haven't heard from Yam Sud, even though I'd have liked to try it out at Mireval!
Now for your top case, if you don't have it by the time I write to you, claim your refund immediately!
You know, it's normal not to be considered when you've bought the top of the range, because as long as you're going upmarket, they're interested in you, and then they don't care!
Never mind, I'll change mine next year for a Goldwing, Honda, if you're reading this, contact me.
Keep me posted pedarga for your top case.

yamaha paris called me and while waiting for the real top case they offered me an old generation 39 liter top case in the color of the bike that i'll keep at the end. the worst is that i had asked the dealer if we could put a 2012 top case: answer NO! the rear buckle has changed. soon i'll have two top cases but finally it's not better
pfuitttttttt the gold wing isn't really my thing. but it's a nice bike. ha yes plus i'm going to invest in a new seat because the fjr is a real pain in the ass. the other day we rode 450 kilometers in a day and my wife couldn't take it anymore........
she was better off on the bandit 1200 I had just before
Rating : 1/5 Participate in the conversation
Thank you for your reply, you see everything works out in the end and it's just a pity that your dealer couldn't tell you that the 2012 top case could go on your 2013 model. No comment!
What's even more annoying is that you don't like this bike and you regret your 1200 bandit!
As for me, I don't regret my purchase, as this bike has very good mileage capabilities! I changed the seat for a comfort seat offered by Yamaha, and this new gel seat is good, even if it's less glamorous aesthetically than some offered by other saddlers.
If I had one criticism, it would be that it's a bit too heavy to negotiate certain turns, which seemed easier with my old CBF 1000, a big bike.
My complaints are more aimed at my dealer, who's a carp and yet the cheque I wrote him wasn't made out of wood.......no how.
Well, if you're in the south of France, it might be a good time to go for a ride on an FJR!
See you soon.
All the best.

You're hesitating and that's normal because the unknown is scary! ... for my part I took the plunge in 2006 for the FJR AS and I'm impatiently awaiting the new AS for the change. After a small setback when it was released (it was one of the first to be sold in the Var). After that, nothing but pleasure: power on take-off and on acceleration, fuel consumption between 5.3 Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
The answer may come a little late, but for my part, I really appreciate the comfort provided by the robotized gearbox. I've been using it for nearly 2 years, driving daily on the freeway and in town, and I can't imagine going back to the manual clutch for my next purchase. As for the reliability of the device, 60,000 km and RAS.
Bonne route à toi ! Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
Good bike to be confirmed in time.... Given the price, I hope it will repay me in reliability and longevity....

i tried it and I finally bought it...
i have a pan euro ST 1100 in the garage and I also had a K1200LT. So I'm a GT subscriber.
as much as the new PAN 1300 didn't convince me...
but I found this new FJR stunning... and so, without hesitation, ordered it...
arriving before the end of the week.

The forks were improved a little, the rear shock absorber, a bit of DIY to bring it up to date.
What I see is the same bike, even heavier. Almost 300 kg!
I'm keeping mine, which doesn't have LED lights but which, after 10 years, still outperforms the new one.

no tire pressure indicator on a 19500â'¬ bike, lamentable
but as soon as I can, I'll buy it anyway to change my TDM 900 ABS, unless a new TDM arrives with a pilot clutch and coupled braking, but don't dream of it! Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
