presentation of the MT-125 2017

the MT-125 continues on its way with a little 2017 perfume upgrade, i.e. compliance with Euro4 standards. Nothing transcendent, but all that's necessary (less pollution, reflective devices) to continue its career. After spectacularly rejuvenating and electrifying the mid-range(MT-09) and then the entry-level(MT-07), the MT range is now exerting its influence in the 125 section. And the machine seems motivated to get noticed. The headlight alone has more aplomb than the MT-09 's; a little mix of the latter's optics with a sharp dose of that of an XJ6 results in a look that speaks volumes. It wants to crunch as much as it stings. Yamaha has done things right with this bike, and has made great gains in terms of styling: side scoops, LED position and tail lights, engine cowling, sporty stick wheels, a definite size..

a sporty MT-125? Like a sibling of theYZF-R 125. In fact, the little MT is based on the R1 mini. The riding position, however, is less exclusive: the specific shape of the fuel tank, the handlebars raised by 10 cm and set back 35 mm, and the slightly lower seat raise the chest while ensuring an almost muscular stance.

more accommodating in terms of comfort, the MT-125 doesn't let up on the technical side. Steel Deltabox frame, large 41 mm inverted fork, single disc brake with radial caliper at the front, same suspension travel, same tires... you can count on the same rigor as that of theYZF-R 125 from a chassis point of view. Agility should be a notch higher. The handlebars offer better leverage, the caster angle has been revised to 33°5, and the roadster's 2 kilos less weight will slightly alter its behavior.

the engine remains unchanged. The 124.7 cm3, 4-valve, 4-stroke single-cylinder develops the same power output as the sports bike, with 15 hp at 9,000 rpm. Torque is identical, at 1.25 mkg at 8,000 rpm. The instrument cluster for monitoring pulse and other useful information is also taken from theYZF-R 125. Only the exhaust has been reworked to increase ground clearance. Is this MT-125 up for a fight? It looks the part, and the mill has only 138 kilos to lift. A little morale-boosting anecdote: this bike will be assembled at MBK's St Quentin factory in France.

In 2015, the little MT gained ABS as an option; now standard. A little extra for safety on tricky ground, but at a cost of a few euros and 2 kilos extra.

Bought in 2023 and 3,000 km on the clock since then. Pure joy for a 125, responsive, more suited to a taller rider than the MT 125 (2025 version). Don't hesitate to rev it up. It's happy only at 8,000 rpm. Its handling is perfect for country roads, and it attacks corners hard. The bike consumes nothing (2l / 100 km). In short, for a beginner, it's perfect. On hilly roads, you're quickly limited by the 15hp. Rating : 4/5
Mt 125 ( mon avis d'utilisateur)
French Blondi, Model 2014
Frankly I love this bike. It's from 2014 and yet I'm at about 20,000kms. My fuel consumption is around 1.7 liters for a range of about 390 kms. Correct handling. A little problem with the fork, I think it's a bit soft, but frankly it's a pleasure to ride, and for a 125 I do 70 kms every day between work and home without any problems. Perhaps an improvement on the lights or a search for more power, but this is a bike to recommend to all motorcycle novices looking for a light, pleasant, economical, good-looking and solid bike. And if you want to get a kick out of it, add the short Arrow pot. It's a killer. Rating : 5/5

I've been riding it for a year, bought it in Corsica now in Reunion Island, just pure pleasure...and then with the speed limits it's sharp enough, and economical when you work with it on a daily basis, having had the tnt 125 benelli just before, the mt has a real size even if I loved the tnt benelli... Hello,
I am very satisfied with the mt 125 except that every time I ride in crevasses or manhole covers, or a gear breaker, I bump against the tank especially between the legs ! Have you had the same problem ? Sincerely

Quel est le coefficient de trainée (Cx)?
French Finiderire Model 2015
Hello,

What is the drag coefficient of such a machine? Doesn't a YZF-R 125 with an equivalent engine perform better on freeways?

a , =)

PS:I'm 1m83 tall and I tried the MT-125. Conclusion: my knees were in the scoops :(
But long 125s do exist (Hyosung GPT, Daelim Roadsport, Honda Varadero)!

soucis de freinage
French olivier Model 2015
Hello everyone,

i'm very happy with mine, the only little problem is that on wet roads, you mustn't brake with the rear because it blocks a little too quickly at that point given its lightness at the rear

Hello,
Owning a MT 125 2015 ABS, the max speed indicated here is wrong. In a straight line without much wind, I go quietly up to 120-123km/h and with the wind at my back I push up to 130. My top speed on a slight incline on the freeway is 134 km/h. A

I also ride a Tdr ... well, it's getting old but it works so well unbridled of course!
My question is, beyond the looks and the technology, does this bike work as well as the Tdr?

Well, in terms of consumption, it's better not to talk about it

FUN! BELLE! DYNAMIQUE!
French jerome Model 2014
I've just bought this bike (26/02/15) used and already broken in (it now has 1350 km).
It's superb and really fun to ride at 115 mph, even though I'm heavy (115 kg) and the weather conditions weren't great.
It's really dynamic and the much-criticized noise isn't too bad in my opinion.
I really recommend this bike, even if it's hard to find (an engine part is out of stock at a subcontractor's => cause of late delivery, according to Yamaha).

slt jerome g got mine in january and just finished running it in for 1350 km. i pushed it into 6th gear it holds 110 but 120 no it's necessary to stay in 5th gear to hope for 130. have you tried it yet ? Rating : 5/5
utilisateur d'un mt 125.
French antho77 Model 2014
hi,
je prend par la discution car j\'ai vu vos messages je l\'ai reçu le 07/11/2014. So sure Yamaha had announced for September ... a little late unfortunately but as always once you get on it forget the wait.
so i'm here to give you my opinion on this bike! (opinion still given during break-in)
the engine is just perfect! you're having the time of your life, you're having the time of your life, but you're still being careful, of course! the bike handles like a grand tourer, and you feel right at home on it. there's just one thing I can understand, and that's that up to 5th gear you've got a lot of torque, and 6th gear is a so-called economy gear! but it's still a real pleasure to ride, both in and out of town!
