presentation of the FJR 1300 AS et S 2008

the FJR set a new tone for grand touring machines. With its elegant lines, comfort, road-holding and sporting capabilities, the manufacturer has established itself as a grand dame of the road. For its evolution, there's no question of doing things by halves, especially as it accompanies Yamaha's fiftieth anniversary festivities.

subtly redesigned, the FJR's lines are immediately recognizable. The changes are not overt, except for the fork head, with an even more assertive look and mirrors mounted on new double-spoke brackets. The priority is clearly announced: to improve on-board comfort. This starts with a new bubble that can be adjusted to a greater height, fairing panels that can be spread by 30 mm and 2 positions, a seat and handlebars that can also be adjusted, footrest plates that have been repositioned to offer more legroom... and the list of modifications is worthy of a good BMW: side cases supplied as standard (attached to a new rear frame loop), new brake calipers with standard ABS and CBS combined braking system (the rear brake pedal also actuates certain pistons at the rear of the frame).(the rear brake pedal also actuates certain front pistons), a progressive throttle for greater engine flexibility, and heated grips as standard on the AS version (more on this in a few lines).
The FJR's efficiency and reliability are further enhanced by a number of smallYAMAHA FJR 1300 technical improvements: new curved radiator with double fan, longer swingarm (+ 35 mm), new intermediate transmission sprocket for longer gear ratios, new exhaust system and lambda probe.new exhaust system and lambda probe to meet Euro 3 standards, redesigned instrument panel with gear indicator, re-styled front and rear headlamps.
But the big innovation on the 2006 FJR is the AS version, featuring a semi-automatic transmission system. Can you believe it?

yamaha calls this system YCC-S (Yamaha Chip Controlled Shift). A robotized transmission similar to the sequential gearboxes found on sports cars. 2 possibilities for controlling gears: traditionally with the foot shifter or via 2 controls on the left comodo... except that the clutch lever has disappeared. A combination of sensors and an electronic control unit take care of everything. Once the shift command has been received, the system takes care of engine management, clutch engagement and ignition, all with comfort and flexibility. This system adds around 4 kg to the weight of the mechanical part. That's not much on a machine of this size, which proudly strides along with its 144 horses. The driver retains full control of his driving, as the YCC-S is not a fully but a semi-automatic mode: you give the impulse to change gear and the gearbox does the rest of the work (declutching, internal movements of forks and sprockets, throttle management, clutching).

a nice evolution for the FJR 1300, which boasts a fine array of technical features to satisfy even the most fervent fast-touring enthusiasts. It remains to be seen whether the YCC-S is as flexible as Yamaha suggests... bearing in mind that we're talking about the factory that created the R1 and R6, the V-MAX, the XT, the GTS, the EXUP, the Deltabox, and 50 years of innovation.

I'm on my third

First model when it came out in 2001, then a second in 2007 and finally the current one in 2009, after the previous one broke up and became a wreck :-(
Excellent machine for my taste (after having two XS1100 Yam, then a CB1000 Honda Big One

Good tourer, agile enough to have reasonable fun with despite its weight

Saddle a bit wide, for me too (1.70 m...) and therefore, loss of useful leg length..
...but I love it, even more since I switched to Full 18 months ago

Hello
My electric bubble of my FJR abs of 2008 did not work any more at once. I checked the fuses being located towards the fatherland, all is OK
Is there another fuse elsewhere that operates the electric motor, and what should I do if I have to dismantle it? ......
The YAMAHA dealer in NEVERS, has never had the case, deal with it, that's business! ....
Thank you very much
