presentation of the R3 300 World GP 60th Anniversary 2022
The R3 will be able to distinguish itself a little more in the 300/400 segment. Rich and varied in models, but still lacking in recognition, this intermediate displacement needs to be convincing between the discovery of motorcycling (the 125s) and the desire for a first big cube(CB 500, MT-07, SV 650, Z 650, 660 Trident, etc.).
Stand out from the crowd ? And how? With this special 60thanniversary color. What's new? The Yamaha R3 has been around for 60 years?
No, it hasn't. It's been six decades since Yam first entered Grand Prix racing, with a 250 twin-cylinder 2-stroke that produced a handful less horsepower than the 321cc of today's R3.
It was at this time that the red-and-white color scheme of Yam GP bikes was introduced. It became known as the "Speed Block", and regularly appeared on fairings to celebrate the manufacturer's great moments.
The R3 World GP 60th Anniversary is a cocktail of candor and sportiness. The taut lines naturally welcome the scarlet squares and stripes. With their matte gold coating, the wheels seem to hark back to the glory days of motorcycle compèt'. A yellow number plate continues the link to the commemorative badge on the tank. Another, more subtle wink: the golden tuning forks on the manufacturer's emblem.
After all these years, it's amusing to note that this bike is also equipped with a twin. But the coincidence ends there. The block delivers 42 hp at 10,750 rpm. Enough to have fun without becoming provocative. The R3 is built on a tubular steel "Diamond" frame, anchored by a 37 mm inverted fork (without adjustment) and a preload-adjustable shock absorber. A single brake disc per wheel, a correct weight of 169 kilos, finely exhilarating sensations and an undeniable vintage replica appeal. This R3 WGP can make a far more remarkable place for itself in the clan.
