presentation of the MT-07 700 2022

Tokyo shudders. The Japanese megalopolis has itchy arteries. In corners it doesn't want to see, currents of ideas permeate influences... right down to the lines of Yamaha roadsters. The MT-07 is one of the daughters of this subculture, as this new episode shows.

Like the rest of the MT family, the 700 takes up the Cyclops theme, with a corrosive fork head capable of lifting any mood. In the Masters of Torque clan, we're not looking to make eyes at you; we're growling our threat to the competition. A luminous Y insinuates itself into the styling, accompanying the main LED headlight to mark the night as much as its face whips the day. Turn signals, taillights and position lights are also LED.

The roadster has also been given a new fuel tank, redesigned air intakes, slightly reworked radiator scoops and an appetite for black. Black is used to cover the levers, footrests, engine mounts and fork tubes between the tees. The rear doesn't do any of this, abandoning none of its previous shapes.
No TFT screen yet. The MT-07 phase III retains an LCD screen. It has been redesigned, however, with a negative display and a different layout for information.

Living with the same 690 cm3 as in its early days, the Yam is enthusiastic but has to comply with standards. Euro5 didn't happen overnight. The manufacturer had to rework the exhaust, install a new ECU, modify the air intake ducts and recalibrate the injection system. In addition to the necessary technical modifications, the CP2 lost a few watts in the process. But not by much: maximum power is down from 74.8 bhp to 73.4 bhp, while torque is down by 0.1 mkg. Not much of a difference, really. The beast has gained 2 kilos, not enough to affect performance. That's not the main thing; what we really want is fun on an MT-07.

Yamaha 700 MT-07 2021 in fact , the handlebars are wider. 32 mm wider, for greater leverage and easier handling. The riding position has also been redesigned for greater comfort. The new seat follows the same philosophy. Handling will also be influenced by the new tires, Michelin Road 5s replacing Bridgestone BT-023s.

The MT-07 is a little moth that likes to play, right away. It's just that the suspension sometimes has trouble keeping up. While the brand has taken some risks with the acetic design, it has left the chassis virtually untouched. The minimalist tubular steel frame, 41 mm fork, swingarm and monoshock are all the same, validated and encouraged. Unlike the MT-09, which has been revisited from head to rims.
For the best-selling MT, only the brakes have been given a makeover. The 282 mm petal discs are replaced by classic 298 mm discs. Fitted with the same calipers as before, 4-piston axial calipers, these should bring efficiency up a notch, aided by the new tires.

When a manufacturer has the star of the market in its range, it's playing Russian roulette if it's renewing it extensively. So, for its 700 MT-07 III, Yamaha has been bold with the face and cautious with the technology - enough to refresh the bike while keeping costs under control. The engine passes the minimum suffering standards, the chassis improves a little without changing the fundamentals, and the price swells within acceptable limits. Enough to keep the throne.

Great bike for beginners Torquey engine and good value Japanese reliability Rating : 5/5
In A2 terms, a very good bike. Personally, I really like the look, even if it's a bit of a cliché. I've got a grey 2021, "nardo" you might say, even if that's not the real name, with red rims, and one thing's for sure: it doesn't leave anyone indifferent. I love the engine, it has a lot of torque, sometimes even too much, the bike tends to want to lift in first gear which may not be too reassuring for me where others will have fun lifting it, there's never a shortage of power and there's more than enough to lose the driving licence.

As for the chassis, unfortunately it hasn't changed too much since the first version, even if some points have been revised. Personally, as an A2, this is my first bike, and I'm not like the magazine test riders who are used to riding anything and everything, so I can't say that the MT is better or worse than any other bike for its chassis, because I'm not a regular rider, personally, I found it very forgiving of small errors, and it held up very well, so even though I know it's a bad point for many, for me the rear shock absorber has been hardened, and the bike doesn't chew gum, doesn't dive, or scare me. For a beginner, it's very good. For me, its big shortcoming is the equipment. Today's competition (the Hornet, among others) offers options such as a rain mode, a road mode, etc. It's all very well, and I personally haven't needed them, but for the same price, they may be lacking. I got a very good price on my bike, whereas used Hornets are currently selling for 7500e, so it's out of the question for me.

So I can't find any major faults with it, apart from the options.

Quel type de shifter ?

Does anyone know if this new shifter for the optional CP2s will be up and down, or only uphill as on the old CP3s? Rating : 4/5

I tried it out this afternoon (model 2021) and found it great fun, with a very fun engine (even though it's limited to A2!!), light, easy to handle, good braking and relatively comfortable (except for the duo)
I like the new look; you quickly get used to the new headlight, and I think it even makes the old model look old-fashioned
For the price, it's a top bike compared to the competition
As a holder of an A licence since 1979, I've owned and ridden all kinds of motorcycles.

Good engine, the frame sometimes has its limits when you take small winding roads and the look, this front look, I can't get used to it, this cricket head, really, what a horror, and this speedo, as soon as there's too much light, you can't see anything. Otherwise, a good all-round bike, but one that quickly finds its limits ... Rating : 5/5

It's been almost 4 months since I bought this bike, and frankly, I'm very happy with it. It's easy to get to grips with, while still being playful when you're nipping at the twin's heels.
I fell in love with its style, which certainly doesn't leave anyone indifferent, especially the front, but which gives it an identity all its own. Excellent bike

Honestly! Stop with your triumph l'amantable the street triple we have the impression that it is not finished, a horror the triumph !!!! I've had quite a few models and I can tell you that the mt is excellent compared to a triumph! Rating : 5/5

i don't know which triumph you had, but comparing a street triple 660 to a mt07, torque isn't everything, and the number of kéké who have ridden it confirms the super handling on twisty roads :-) Rating : 2/5
Toujours plus nulle !

Always more expensive. Always uglier
Always heavier.
Always the same.

Better to get a Triumph Trident 660.

@Nismo, it's true that the Triumph is cheap, not to mention the price of parts and servicing, which is almost double that of a Yam ... Rating : 5/5

for the look it's personal but with a hot engine like that you don't have to be too picky in my opinion there's no competition in sight !
