For 2003, the RSV 1000 R makes do with minor changes. Admittedly, the Italian is already a top performer in the hypersports hierarchy. Still equipped with Öhlins suspension, the real novelty is the introduction of radial Brembo brake calipers. Aesthetically, only the seat design and mudguard have changed. Mechanically, Aprilia has sought to enhance the RSV's potential. The gearbox has been reworked, with the first three ratios lengthened. The OZ rims are 1 kg lighter.
This should make the Italian even better, without losing any of its superb qualities. Braking, like the engine, promises to be highly efficient. A comparison with the other Italian hypersport promises to be a nasty one. Its designated rival and compatriot, the Ducati 999, can't stand up to the comparison at all... except in its racing version, but the price difference becomes decidedly indecent. By the way, if the €16,000 price tag puts you off a little, take a closer look at the normal version of the RSV. Barely less efficient (only the pros will be able to take advantage of the R's more elaborate suspension), it's a choice alternative that benefits from the same evolutions, with the exception of the radial brake calipers.
