presentation of the F 900 R 2025
Go on the offensive or fight back? It's time for the F 900 R to react. Competitors on all sides are sharpening their sights - so for 2025, it has decided to fill its bag with a new fork that can be adjusted for compression and rebound, a lighter battery, new rims that save 1.8 kilos in weight, redesigned ergonomics with repositioned handlebars and footrests, Euro5+ compliance, and the addition of the "Dynamic" riding mode. The electronics are enhanced by ABS Pro active in curves, MSR engine control, Dynamic traction control and Dynamic Brake Control.
Not bad for a price increase of just 10 euros. On the other hand, weight is down by 3 kilos. Nothing changes on the design side, BMW having only made a symbolic gesture for the rear, with the lights integrated into the turn signals.
The engine remains largely unchanged, content to continue its career under the new standard. An in-line twin lacking in character but not in efficiency. In its category of wolves, several types of engine rub shoulders with one another. 4-cylinder, V-twin, 3-cylinder... There was even a single-cylinder model at one time, the 690 Duke. The F 900 R is based on the 850 GS block, upgraded to 895 cm3 and extrapolated to 105 hp at 8500 rpm and 9.5 mkg of torque...
For young licence holders, a specific version with a full 95 hp will be available for A2s. But it won't be possible to upgrade to 105.
With this mill and its updated performance figures, BMW is taking a closer look at the watts of the MT-09, Street Triple R, Z 900 and 937 Monster. However, with less power than the hotter bikes, will it be a handicap? You'd think so, but the F 900 R has other strengths.

Up front is a 43 mm inverted fork with 135 mm of travel. The rear monoshock offers adjustable rebound and preload, as well as 142 mm of travel. These values have been significantly increased since the ex-Rodster 800 (125 mm front/rear), providing improved working space for the suspension and a promise of greater comfort. The F 900 R doesn't just look more dynamic. Its body, too, is a step in this direction.
The 6.5-inch color TFT screen immediately puts you in the mood. The graphics are classy, it's thumb-controlled with the Multi Controller ring, and it can be connected to a smartphone. This makes it possible to set up interactivities ranging from the most practical (simplified GPS application, route planning and recording, etc.) to the most entertaining (music playback or making phone calls).
Then there are up to 4 Riding Modes - "Dynamic Pro" being the only optional one. I'll give you the details of the Riding Modes at the end. In the meantime, let's stick with the options: cornering lights, fiber-optic daytime running lights, keyless ignition, ESA Dynamic semi-active rear damping, emergency call, cruise control... In short, a robbery of the wallet.

The F 900 R has what it takes to win over customers in a highly competitive segment. Laughing is out of the question, but boasting is definitely in.
driving modes in action:
- In "Rain" mode, the throttle intake is smooth and the ABS Pro and DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) systems take account of road conditions in their adjustment characteristics, when the road is wet and therefore more slippery. The new MSR engine braking torque control provides maximum assistance.
- The "Road" mode offers optimum throttle admission, and the ABS Pro and DTC systems deliver optimum performance on all roads. Here, too, the MSR is in maximum position.
- In "Dynamic mode", the sporty side of the F 900 R is felt with greater intensity. The engine is tuned for optimum throttle response, and the DTC and ABS Pro systems are adapted to high coefficients of friction on the road, with take-off detection for the front and rear wheels coming into play only later. Intervention of the MSR engine braking torque control is also reduced. The default setting for Dynamic ESA - where available - is the "Dynamic" shock absorber setting.
- The "Dynamic Pro" mode offers the very sporty rider every opportunity to adapt the machine optimally to his own wishes and needs. Three throttle characteristics, three ABS settings and four DTC settings are available. This means that the level of intervention of the control systems can be adapted to suit a very sporty riding style, even to the extent of deactivating the take-off assistants and intervening very late on all control systems.

Why the F900R: More versatile, better quality, rarer too (and prettier, especially this livery, but that's subjective). The big drawback, but it's often the case with BM, is the fact that you have to take a full option to really realize that they know how to make motorcycles, and that helps with resale just in case. Even in 95 hp (Sport edition obliges), it pushes, it's efficient, it gives you the feeling of having taken riding lessons. The bike is ultra-precise, and far more playful than the tests suggest (as soon as you switch to Dynamic Pro...as an option, of course...).
Comfortable, the position of the feet is a little strange at first... not unpleasant but... to be tested... but once again to compare it to an MT, despite my 1m90 I don't have any back pain on long trips, and a little that impression of being "in" the bike, like on a KAWA.
The riding aids are really top-notch, in fact a little too much so, because you can quickly speed without looking out, especially with the shifter, and without getting your ass kicked, since the thrust is linear. Some testers have mentioned the slightly "vacuum cleaner/fade" noise of the original pot, which is something to be tested before having the line changed (which is what I wanted to do when I ordered the bike). The seller started one up, and it's...far from being the disaster I'd been told it would be. The bike snores well, and we're still within the neighborhood's noise limits.
As usual, test before you buy, and compare prices (13500 for this full-option edition) Rating : 5/5 Respond to Dav1974
I bought a F900R A2 which is unbridled.
After a little less than 2,000 km, I really like this bike, comparing it to the MT09, I find it more complete.
Clearly, this F900R is good everywhere, but not excellent.
The engine is linear, but in the end, that's all to the good: you can feel that there's some grunt in there, without getting scared, and it works at all levels, especially in the mid-range, around 6,000 rpm
The brakes (Brembo for that matter) work very well, but a little too intrusive for me, especially at the rear.
The chassis, on the other hand, is a delight, once you've got your footing, you stay there, and the change of angle (despite its weight) from one bend to the next comes naturally, and the bike reacts pretty quickly.
For me, the minor drawbacks are
The 13L fuel tank is a little tight, and I'm closer to 6.5L than 5.5L per 100kms, especially in dynamic mode. In rain Yes, we're below 6L
2nd drawback: at low speeds, with its weight (and I also think that the steering damper doesn't make my job any easier), getting around town isn't easy.
In conclusion, I don't think this bike is made for the big city at the perif, or even for everyday city riding, but rather for leisurely strolls, or for mingling with friends in the mountains or countryside.
Ideal for a beginner or intermediate rider.
On the other hand, if you're looking for a bike that's got guts, aggression and character, it's not the best choice. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Pepe
In my opinion, this BM is a botched bridle
Otherwise, it's a beautiful bike and I suppose that unbridled in 105 HP it must be pretty good. Rating : 3/5 Respond to Alain81
However, TOO WEIGHTY BY 20KG, it will always sell less than the competition mt09 monster honda650r which are all lighter... Rating : 4/5 Respond to Marco
after a 2019 500 CRB R, and a 2019 SV 650 X, the F900R is the bike that gives me the most feeling and safety
you should still consider some options :) Rating : 5/5 Respond to Tom du 92

There are stats on the net, and as usual the Japanese brands are at the top of the table while BM is squarely at the bottom, even behind Ducat and Triumph that's to say. Rating : 3/5 Participate in the conversation
