presentation of the F 900 XR Aurelius 2026
The F 900 XR has often been called the "little S 1000 XR." It shares the same crossover profile but lacks the formidable firepower of its bigger sibling. But with this special edition (unveiled for the S2R show), some might call it the mini M 1000 XR. Indeed, BMW is offering it in a specific color—available only in France—that’s also found on the hyper-trail bike: Aurelius Green.
A deep green, not English at all, but as dense as the Black Forest. BMW presents it as a touch of elegance paired with performance. In practice, it won’t add horsepower to the twin or sharpen the chassis, but it does lend a certain cachet and the ego boost of having an edition reserved for our country.
In pursuit of the green F 900
The enticing photo shows it with a skid plate and a high-smoke windscreen. This enhances the visual impact, but let’s not get too excited: these two items are optional.
So, let’s take this opportunity to review the standard equipment of an F 900 XR:
- 105-horsepower twin-cylinder engine with 93 Nm
- 4-piston radial Brembo brakes
- Lightweight wheels
- Adjustable 43 mm inverted fork and Sachs monoshock
- Heated grips
- Hand guards
- Traction control
- Residual engine torque control
- 6.5-inch color TFT display with smartphone connectivity
- Three riding modes
- Adjustable windscreen
- USB-C and 12V ports
- Adaptive cornering lights
- Cornering ABS

A special edition usually comes with a special price tag. For the F 900 XR (as with the other design edition on its roadster cousin, the F 900 R Frozen), it’s a bit more subtle—and complicated—than that. This Aurelius Green Metallic Matt version costs exactly the same as the standard version. Surprising, isn’t it?!
Except that this is the price listed during a promotional offer, which brings down the original price. And since this discount also applies to the base F 900 XR, the latter is listed at a much lower price than the Aurelius Green. Are you following?
Anyway, it’s a pricing jungle out there; and it’s been like this with all manufacturers for a while now. What’s certain is that the F 900 XR is surrounded by a bunch of mid-size crossovers (Tracer 9, Tiger Sport 800, 900 Rhino, Multistrada V2, 1000 Stelvio, Voge 900, etc.) and wants to prove it’s more than just a name.

The only other model available in “Aurelius Green Metallic Matt” was the first two model years of the R 1300 GS.

I found this Chinese engine to be very sluggish when I tried the F900R equipped with it (admittedly restricted to A2). Rating : 2/5 Respond to Alain81
