Motorcycle specifications BMWF 800 GT 2018 A road at your fingertips

In the world of BMW road bikes, it's hard to make a name for yourself when you're up against the R 1200 RT and the majestic K 1600 GT / GTL. But you can be more discreet, more playful and more accessible by calling yourself the F 800 GT.
With 2017 and an upgrade to Euro4, the little Behemoth receives its first modifications since its appearance in 2013. In terms of looks, it will be very difficult to tell the difference from the previous version. Let's not waste time playing mystifying research and quote: the new chapter of the F 800 GT can be recognized by its metallic plates on the fairing sides, a new exhaust tip and modified speedometer dials. The main changes are to the engine.
the twin itself remains unchanged. Its 90 hp are still on tap, except that a new engine management system enables it to meet the new standards. The rest is more interesting. If you're going to tinker with electronics, you might as well get serious and bring the little GT up to speed with the rest of the range. The most road-going of the F models gains a ride-by-wire throttle, and this makes it possible to implement Driving Modes.
You can now choose between a "Road" or "Rain" atmosphere for journeys and mops. Road" is for everyday use, while "Rain" is more suitable for tricky conditions. Perhaps your desires will provoke a more vigorous wish?! In that case, a quick trip to the option box will offer you a "Dynamic" mode, revealing a sportier driving style.
The Pilot Modes graft has a slight impact on the on-board instrumentation: an engine malfunction indicator and the display of the said Modes have been added.
A judicious update for the F 800 GT, without touching its fundamentals. Derived from and replacing the F 800 ST, the GT gives off a distinctly more dynamic impression, mainly thanks to its more generous, sporty fairing panels. With its larger bubble, the Behemoth has gained in protection. Apart from the seat, the rear end remains that of the ST.
its 798 cm3 twin-cylinder engine produces a maximum power output of 90 hp at 8,000 rpm. And an attractive maximum torque of 8.8 mkg. A 48 hp version for young A2 license holders is also available. Beneath the cladding, you'll find an aluminum double-beam frame, a classic 43 mm fork, the unusual location of the fuel filler flap, fretless brake discs, standard ABS, belt drive and a few other little extras to enhance the efficiency of this 800 traveler. Compared to theex-ST, these include lightened rims, a swingarm lengthened by 50 mm for greater stability, a suspension height reduced by 15 mm, and more engaging ergonomics. With handlebars raised by 20 mm, a seat lowered from 840 to 800 mm, and footrests now 10 mm further forward and 10 mm lower, the rider will find a more relaxed riding position.
in addition to the Driving Modes, this little GT benefits from a number of assistants usually reserved for more upscale machines. As an option, you can take advantage of disconnectable ASC traction control and/or ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment). Here, Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) electronically adjusts rear suspension rebound in 3 modes: comfort, normal or sport.
this F 800 GT is clearly the youngest of the Bavarian tourers and one of the few small GTs available on the market. Its maximum payload of 207 kilos allows it to carry a wealth of belongings and luggage. This is where the range of accessories and options comes in: 55-liter suitcases, 28-liter top-case, Navigator IV GPS, several types of saddle, heated grips, Akrapovic muffler, etc., etc., etc., and so on. And it doesn't get any better than this: fuel consumption is claimed to be particularly frugal.

I recently purchased a 2018 F800GT with an 820mm comfort seat. Can anyone tell me if there is a low (785mm) or extra low (765mm) saddle that was available for this model from 2013 to 2016? Thank you! Rating : 5/5 Respond to pierre
Can anyone give me their opinion on the duo? Comfortable passenger position?
I'm fed up with bikes that are too heavy for a loaded duo, and this model appeals to me
Thank you! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Nico
I must say that the top case makes a big contribution to passenger comfort. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation

For us, it's the ideal compromise.
I own an R1200RT and my wife an F800GT. It's ideal, not too heavy, very maneuverable at low speed, a rail at high speed.
My wife had a 600 bandit, and she wouldn't go back. Comfortable, easy to handle and reassuring, that's what characterizes this bike.
As for me, when I want to have a bit of fun, I go for the 800GT, which is nothing like the 1200RT.
It's a treat.
When we go on vacation, it's each to his own bike, with one child each. We have 2 boys, aged 12 and 14.
The suitcases and top cases are full, and my wife doesn't feel the overload on the F800GT.
No, I'm telling you, it's perfect and ideal for medium-sized riders.
You won't be disappointed with your purchase.
Have a good trip. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Damien

i switched from the Varadero 125cm3
(19000 Kms in 2 1/2 years) to the F 800 GT (2013).
I'm young (67) and have had an A2 license for 10 months, and with the F 800 GT (7500 Kms), I've had no problems adapting.
I'm 1m 88 for 92 Kg and the bubble protects me perfectly.
Handling is impressive, and on the freeway, you can drive in complete safety
\ìon railsî.
It revs up smoothly and the braking is up to the task.
i'd recommend this bike to young A2 license holders.

i read with interest your review of the BMW F 800 GT.
We have almost the same characteristics in age and size. You write:\" ...
I'm 1m 88 for 92 Kg and the bubble protects me perfectly...\"
Others complain about the bubble's lack of protection, even though they're shorter. Can you tell me more about this and protection in general (silence, aero, comfort...)?
Otherwise, does this model have cruise control, like the RTs?
I've been happy to try out the other 800 models; I've found the engine very nice and the braking easy to control.
Thanks for your opinion, and enjoy the ride :)

a little underpowered when there is a more powerful engine on another model of the brand why wait for years cordially Rating : 4/5 Respond to silma sirroco
It would be perfect with an extra 20hp for the duo.

I would like to know if anyone has lowered the front footrests so that the legs are less bent.
What accessory was used? Thanks
I have a lowered saddle for sale if interested. Rating : 3/5 Participate in the conversation
The riding position is well matched to its character, inviting you to ride both flexibly and sportily. A very low center of gravity makes it very easy to handle.
Two major concerns, however: the under-seat fuel tank traps engine heat at low speeds and becomes unbearable in summer.
The bubble offers modest protection at 130 km/h.
For once, Bmw has played on aesthetics rather than efficiency....
Not the best score for this problem of shin discomfort in summer, but it's also a big advantage in mid-season.
A must-try bike for gentlemen in a hurry and ladies in a good mood.

Thank you for this interesting comment
I am only 1m63 tall. Do you think it will still fit me? Rating : 5/5 Respond to Jean-Yves
i've ridden it for 1,000 km, solo or in a duo, loaded or not, and this bike has never given me any nasty surprises.
I've just added a rear wheel wiper to protect the shock absorber and limit projection, and a pot for a sportier sound!
So I recommend it! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Fabelli
What's more, at 1.76 m tall, the fairing and original bubble protect me sufficiently, and fuel consumption remains stable at 4.2 l/100 - I'm riding in the mountains, though!
With a JM Briant comfort saddle, long-distance riding is a pleasure. And with the Akra pot, the sound is much nicer!
The only downside is that I'm decidedly not a fan of the original Metzeler Z8 Interact tires, which have received rave reviews in the specialist press... I'm going to change to Michelin PR4s (which I had on my previous bike), which I find much safer on wet and degraded roads.
Another downside: you'll need to add a rear mudguard (I chose a Puig), otherwise your passenger may end up billing you for cleaning his or her clothes! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Arnauld57
can we have a photo of your saddle?
during my test ride, i'm 1.76 m tall i found the bubble quite ineffective already at 120 km/h.
2 eme point négatif, le freinage m\'a paru délicat, voire violent.

The longer wheelbase makes it a real rail in curves (the st was much more nervous in fast bends). The tank having lost 1litre, I thought it would be a penalty, but given that fuel consumption loses half a liter per 100 km, it has no impact (approx. 285km before going into reserve).
The transmission bumps of the st have disappeared, leaving a hole and a few vibrations between 4 and 5000, light braking at the rear, a lack of storage on the sides of the fairing. (There was plenty of room) and a slightly traily position.
I didn't take the suitcases because they're too wide for my route and don't have the variable st adjustment.
The fairing is more protective than that of the st, except for the feet.
For winter, I plan to fit Givi's highest bubble, has anyone tested it? As for the mirrors, no change, they're still a bit small (and ugly)
In short, for me, it's a good everyday companion that's easy to have fun with. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Rv
Missing 10 to 15 hp
Very playful bike, pushes to accelerate
Light and easy to handle
Turning circle a bit large
No engine noise (angry moped)
2000km on the odometer
Nickel-plated duo with comfort saddle
Overall very happy, mainly for its lightness and overall playfulness Rating : 4/5 Respond to laurent
Already noticed on the F 800 GT tested under 10°... and then with mine at 20°, in duo the spring preload adjustment, lacks amplitude (hardening) and remains too soft, generating a front/rear distortion of the chassis when passing over bumps, even the attitude on billiards is affected.
I drive (on the road) to get a better feel for the front end, and this compensates in part for this fault, which I find distressing for a touring-oriented vehicle whose manufacturer has increased its load capacity (11kg)????
In my opinion, this is the only significant flaw, given the product's versatility.
This vehicle corresponds well to our expectations (as a family): economical, with a rigorous chassis, and toned up by its mechanics, it's easy to enjoy, and the trajectories in the saddle (of course) are truly thrilling.
The recipe is simple:
-adopt the right attitude with your body: just like on a horse.
-This decouples the reactions of the bike from those of the rider.
-In fact, the BUST STANDS ALONE, the hands placed LIGHTLY, and the handlebars are used only to draw the curves of your inspirations.
-Think/feel the points of the V FORMED by the tips of the FESSIER bones on the saddle with the ends of your arms:HANDS placed on the grips.
Enjoy the ride.

Fuel consumption is still low! I'm at 4.4 L/100, I do 45% city, 40 countryside and 15 freeway, I ride calmly to work and a little faster on the way back.
As far as weather conditions are concerned, I don't need to draw any pictures for the last few weeks! even on snow! (I'm crazy, I finished on foot so as not to break it!) In the duo version? it's too cold for the lady! Si non, vraiment rien à redire, l'ensemble et très agréable. See you and have a nice trip. Rating : 5/5 Respond to eric
the consumption is therefore as low as the happiness is great, we can't wait for the good weather for duo impressions. lots of nice rides... Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
Surprisingly comfortable, my first behemoth after 20 years of motorcycling, and I'm already thinking how hard it's going to be to change!
As for fuel consumption, we'll have to wait and see. I'm still breaking it in, but I'm below 5 liters Rating : 5/5 Respond to eric
Yes, thank you for keeping us up to date on fuel consumption and therefore range! It's great to have this bike in full option: a real pleasure
Any other comments on the qualities, faults, special features (full petrol tank), duo... would be most welcome
