a letter that stands for everything at BMW. Sport, competition, mind-boggling performance! The production cars that pass through the MotorsportGmbH subsidiary become missiles capable of rivaling Porsche, Aston Martin or Jaguar. The M3 and M5 are the most representative.
Now, one of the German manufacturer's motorcycles has taken up the testosterone mantle to become an overachieving missile: the M 1000 RR.
this supercharged machine is part of the "hypersports +" trend. Those designed solely for the racetrack, or with a very strong appetite for it. Like the Aprilia RSV4 X, Suzuki GSX-R Ryuyo or Yamaha R1 GYTR. With just one nuance: the M 1000 RR can be unleashed on the road. It smells of Superbike homologation, like a certain Ducati Panigale V4R.
provocative and menacing, it makes no secret of its desire to go on the hunt. In addition to its warlike paintwork and sharp lines, certain details put the leather under tension. Note the near-slicks Michelin Power Cup tires, the carbon appendages, the provocative brake calipers, the selfish seat backrest and the fiber-meshed wheels. Get the stopwatch ready, crank up the sound system, warm up the engine and let loose the horses!
if the Behemoth hypersport mill has earned a fine reputation from the outset, it's due to its character and demonic power. On the S 1000 RR, it set the bar at 207 hp. Except that the competition has also upped the ante, led by Honda and Ducati. The 4-cylinder benefits from a good ladle of optimization to pick up the watts. Let's take a look inside and see the forged Mahle 2-piston rings lightened by 12g each, the Pankl titanium connecting rods lengthened and lightened by 85g, the compression ratio increased, the intake redesigned, the ACTs optimized (still controlled by the variable Shiftcam system), and the new valve springs and rocker arms.

What's more, if BMW has pushed the maximum revs up to 15,100 rpm instead of the S 1000 RR's 14,600 rpm, it's not for the pleasure of making it howl - it's mainly because World Superbike regulations limit the maximum revs of the mill to those of the production machine. Once homologated, the M 1000 RR will enable its WSBK version to offer even greater performance. All the more so as internal modifications will allow a higher level of preparation.
as with all new sports bikes arriving on the market, we're on the lookout to see if it will have fins or not. Bingo, the M 1000 RR has them on its cheeks. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, to integrate them into the WSBK wheel. Secondly, they increase the pressure on the front axle, so the anti-wheeling system has less work to do, allowing more power to flow through to the rear wheel. Finally, the winglets provide greater stability when braking and cornering. Downforce is just 1.5 kg at 100 kph, rising to 5.9 kg at 200 kph and 13.4 kg at 300 kph. Ducati seems to have mastered the exercise better, with the V4R 's small fins providing a maximum of 30 kg of downforce.
Between the high bubble, the carbon fins and the overall design of the M, the manufacturer has put a lot of work into aerodynamics. It's said to save 0.5 to 0.7 seconds per lap... Do the math after a run of 25 revolutions.

the M 1000 RR's specifications also included adapting the chassis, so it didn't take long to sharpen up. Much has changed around the double-spar aluminum frame: steering column angle tightened, caster increased, wheelbase lengthened to 1457 mm, swingarm lengthened by 12 mm, extended adjustability of the swingarm pivot point, reduced front-end load and suspension adjustment.
usually, the manufacturer Öhlins is called upon to install beautiful, highly efficient golden struts. Not so for the M. Instead, the inverted fork is reworked, while the working elements around the shock absorber are optimized for extended adjustment. Both elements are still Marzocchi-branded and adjustable from all sides. New parts under the buttocks increase ride height by 6 mm.
the brakes also have their own special features. The M 1000 RR could have followed in the footsteps of its rivals and shopped at Brembo, with Stylema R brakes capable of stopping a fighter jet. Instead, we opted for a collaboration with Nissin to bring out totally redesigned calipers. These 4-piston radial calipers weigh 60g less than those on the S. The blue anodizing is a little keke-tuned, but illustrates the added value of this more powerful and consistent braking system. Thicker (5 mm) 320 mm discs support the energy transfer. At the rear, the 220 mm disc is bitten by a 2-piston caliper, also optimized.

The electronics are very much in evidence, which is only logical given all that the S already has. A long list to make every lap shorter:
- Ride-by-wire throttle with two distinct throttle curves
- Up&Down shifter
- Launch Control standing start assistant
- Pit speed limiter
- 6-axis IMU inertial unit
- Traction control
- Engine brake control
- Active cornering ABS
- Wheelie control
- 7 driving modes: 3 programmable and 4 factory preset (Rain - Road - Dynamic - Race)
- And even Hill Start Control Pro...
the Driving Modes are as follows. For Race Pro 1, 2 and 3, the driver calibrates whatever he or she likes, while for the others, you don't have to worry about it, and you can choose whatever you like, depending on your mood
- Rain: cool acceleration, reduced torque, full DTC, full engine braking, full ABS, full safety.
- Road: normal acceleration, moderate ABS, engine braking, more permissive traction control.
- Dynamic: normal acceleration, ABS at minimum, engine brake at mid-setting and reduced traction control.
- Race: normal acceleration, ABS Pro deactivated, traction control in Track mode, engine brake at mid-setting.
all lighting is LED, from the eyes to the auto-off turn signals. Overexcited when approaching a racetrack, the M 1000 RR loves to strip off. All on-road fittings, apart from the headlights, can be quickly removed for track use.

let's stay in this field for a moment. As stipulated by the authorities, a minimum of 500 units of the BMW M 1000 RR will be produced. It's not certain that production will exceed this figure.
For a price well in excess of £30,000, you'll be entitled to the grinding wheel with its high level of technical features, carbon wheels, cruise control, heated grips and USB connection - but for the majority of carbon parts, engine guards, telemetry system with GPS, the hard-wearing Endurance M chain or adjustable footrests, a trip to the packs or accessories is compulsory. What about a carbon fairing? Well, you can brush yourself off.
Except if you go to BM's Racing Parts, where you'll find everything you need to enter the competition, including engine and electronics kits, racing exhaust systems and other tools.
with this missile, BMW is stepping up a gear to conquer the Superbike title that has eluded it for so long. For enthusiasts, the M 1000 RR promises to be a superb tool for the racetrack, but also capable of scaring the road.

Maintenance
An inaccurately dimensioned control pin can lead to insufficient pressure compensation and impaired brake system operation, creating a risk of accident.
At high engine speeds (>= 12,500 rpm), the oil filter's screw connection may come loose, causing oil to leak from the oil filter. This can lead to oil deposits on the road, creating slippery sections and increasing the risk of accidents and injuries.
