More like for an art gallery! The illustrations in question were created by Italian artist Ugo Nespolo. Two pop-art interpretations of the bike we’re interested in: one for the Streetfighter V4 S 100, and the other for the classic bike from which it borrowed its evening gown.

Here is one of the hottest bikes in the Collezione 100 —a series of 10 bikes celebrating Ducati’s 100th anniversary, each chosen to honor a specific motorcycle from the brand’s history. The Streetfighter has taken on the 1979 900 SD Darmah, a touring bike with a slightly sporty temperament.

A wild, feline look

Like the bike itself, the livery is all about black and gold. A very elegant combination, then as now. Added to this is a tiger’s head, inlaid beneath the wheel arch. A powerful symbol that the 900 SD once sported on its fairing beneath the seat. It is, in fact, from this animal that the motorcycle took its name. This tiger belongs to a Malaysian pirate, Sandokan, the main character of a TV series. The big cat that accompanied him was named Darmah.

A few distinctive elements round out the presentation: a special animation when the dashboard lights up, a bronze finish on the brake calipers, the centennial logo on the airbox cover, an Alcantara seat with the same embroidered logo, a machined fuel cap, a rear stand in the same colors as this streetfighter, a dry clutch, and a half-open carbon cover to let it breathe. A protective cover is also included, along with carbon fiber parts, kits for removing the mirrors and license plate. Everything is neatly packed in a screen-printed wooden crate.

The Streetfighter V4 S from the Collezione 100 showcases its pedigree with a certificate of authenticity as well as two plates riveted to the triple clamp. One bears the bike’s name, the other indicating its serial number among the hundred units produced.
Purchasing this machine also entitles you to buy the matching leather jacket and the Arai helmet in the same style.

Time enhances performance

The Darmah already featured desmodromic valve timing and roared with the twin engine of the famous 900 SS. That engine delivered 68 horsepower and allowed it to reach 200 km/h. Some 47 years later, the Ducati SF V4 S is three times as powerful and nearly as potent as the family’s Superbike , with its 214 horsepower. In a century, the small factory in Bologna has gone from modest electronics to a roadster capable of sending you into orbit.
