Do you remember Cook Neilson’s victory at Daytona in 1977? The XDiavel was still a long way off, and yet it remembers it well. In the “Collezione 100,” Ducati’s power cruiser pays tribute to the 750 SS’s superb performance on the American track.

Cook had asked his buddy Phil Shilling to tune up this bike (increased displacement, overall chassis upgrades), and the result of the race marked a new era for Ducati:
- For the first time, a production Italian motorcycle won a race in the U.S.
- Until then, Ducati had sold almost exclusively its Scrambler in the U.S. This success helped introduce the brand to more performance-hungry Americans.

Neilson and Shilling’s bike was christened “California Hot Rod” by its sponsors. A name that fits this XDiavel V4 replica like a glove. It adopts the color scheme of the venerable ancestor mentioned above, with striking touches of blue and gray. The gold rims gently catch the eye, while the race number also brings back memories of that race—31 being, of course, the number of the winning bike at Daytona.

High-end equipment

Like all the bikes in the Ducati Centennial Collection, the XDiavel V4 features a color-matched workshop stand and bronze-finished brake calipers. This finish is also used for the fuel cap surround and the authenticity plate on the handlebar. However, this bike is the only one in the “100” family that doesn’t mount it on the handlebars; instead, it’s installed on the side of the instrument panel cover, with the serial number engraved.

With the XDiavel V4 100, you get a monstrous 168-horsepower custom bike, wide handlebars, a forward-leaning riding position, a rumbling 4-outlet muffler, and premium extras such as a leather seat featuring “100 1926 - 2026,” a specially machined fuel cap, a dry clutch, its openwork carbon cover, and an exclusive dashboard animation when starting the engine.

The motorcycle will be delivered in a wooden crate (which is also valuable) along with its certificate of authenticity, a protective cover, and a pair of numbered art prints bearing the same serial number as the motorcycle and signed by Ugo Nespolo (Italian painter and sculptor), who artistically interpreted this model as well as the historic motorcycle that inspired its livery in his unique, colorful, and dynamic style.

The Ducati XDiavel V4 Collezione 100 will first set you back a fortune— over 70,000 euros, more than double the price of the standard model —and will tempt the wealthy buyer with the opportunity to enhance its look. The brand has customized an Araï helmet and offers a leather jacket, both matching this special edition. Only buyers of the motorcycle will be able to purchase them. Because, to top it all off, this duo isn’t included—even after shelling out the equivalent of four Rolex Daytonas (in steel).
