presentation of the DesertX Collezione 100 2026
Let’s take in the desert atmosphere and its colors. Hey, could that be a V-Strom 800DE Rally standing proudly right here? It’s a bit strange, though, with that distinctly Italian vibe emanating from it… Because beneath its narcissistic appearance lies not a Suzuki, but a special edition from Bologna.
Setting off on an adventure with a Ducati is possible with a whole range of models; but exploring the backroads and leaving the pavement behind is truly only possible with the DesertX. The manufacturer’s most TT-inspired bike is part of the official selection to celebrate its 100th anniversary,as a collector’s item but above all as a “Collezione.”
The DesertX 100’s livery is inspired by the graphics of the 1981 Pantah “Ice,” one of the most curious examples of product placement in Ducati’s history.
The Pantah “Ice” was nothing more than a modified Pantah 500, characterized by the addition of unusual studded tires and the removal of the braking system, so it could be used on icy tracks.
At the time, Ducati was managed by a state-owned group that also controlled automakers such as Alfa Romeo. In the early 1980s, EFIM, the body overseeing Ducati and Alfa Romeo, organized a championship for Alfasuds on the icy tracks of the Alps. The races consisted of two heats; during the intermission, the brightly colored “Ice” Pantahs put on an impressive show for the audience. The “Ice” motorcycles were produced in various liveries. The model chosen for the DesertX 100—yellow with blue stripes—belonged until recently to the Ducati Museum’s collection.
The DesertX 100 is equipped with an Alcantara seat featuring the embroidered Ducati 100 logo, as well as the name and serial number engraved on a century-old bronze plaque attached to the stanchions of the machined fork crown. The raised front fender and aluminum radiator grille reinforce its off-road look. Standard equipment includes a fuel cap and headlight grille made of century-old bronze, which are not street-legal.
