presentation of the 998 2003

With this new evolution, the new descendant of the eternal 916 further consolidates the know-how of the Bologna factory. The Ducati styling remains the same, but the air vents on the fairing have disappeared. The main change comes from the engine block. The twin takes on a hint of displacement, but above all is equipped with the highly efficient "Testastretta" cylinder head. Introduced on the 996 R, it features larger-diameter valves whose angle of closure has been reduced from 40° to 25°, hence the name "narrow head". With its larger bore, the engine has gained horsepower at the top of the rev counter. With these modifications, the twin has not only gained in power but also in smoothness. The engine can be revved lower in the final gears, with smoother revs.

This more efficient twin can count on the Italian's faultless chassis. The unmistakable trellis frame rigorously supports a large Showa inverted fork, while rear damping is handled by Öhlins. No need to worry about roadholding. The 998 remains true to its origins: rigorous in its handling and demanding of its rider. Broken in half and locked on his wrists, he will have to force the machine into the bend and hold it seriously in all phases of driving. Physical, but regally sporty.
The brake discs have been slimmed down to reduce the gyroscopic effect. We'd have liked to see an improvement in handling. it brakes hard, but you have to be authoritarian with the lever.
There's no doubt about it, the 998 is still flying the Ducati flag. Smoother and more efficient than the 996, it promises to be a great ride. But keep your physio's phone number handy.

I'm sorry, but you should never compare a Japanese to an Italian, it's even a sacrifice...!!!!

The Japanese are excellent but the Italians have a "soul", give off something that you'll never find on a rather bland Japanese. You look at a Japanese but you stop at an Italian..!!!
An Italian car isn't driven, it's driven, and that's the difference.
It's not just a bike, it's a lifestyle..

it's fine, its performance offers a lot of pleasure and sensation, the dismounting is always rock hard, a bike for the privileged, but it's still a very expensive bike (notice to the wealthy)
nothing beats a bone japanese, that sends you flying! peace!
