presentation of the 939 Hypermotard SP 2017
the Ducati Hypermotard is a toy for consenting adults; its 939 SP version is a toy for demanding adults. No more powerful, but better equipped, sportier, higher, better suspended, the machine doesn't belie its racing look. Press the starter and the game begins.
the Hypermotard SP is upgraded at the same time as the standard model, with improvements to the 937 cm3 twin. A few more horsepower, a lot more torque, and a series of bonuses to help you get the most out of your bike. First and foremost, Öhlins. The previous SP, the 821, was fitted only with the Swedish manufacturer's shock absorber. Now a 939, the Hypermotard SP gains a 50 mm-diameter gold-plated fork. Fully adjustable, it provides greater efficiency and feel on hard rides.
Braking also gains in feel with a Brembo radial master cylinder, complemented by a 5-position adjustable lever. Bosch ABS and equipment remain unchanged from the standard HM: 320 mm discs, Brembo M4-32 radial and monobloc clamps, Bosch 9MP unit with 2 levels of intervention + off.
with increased suspension travel (front: 185 mm, + 15 mm - rear: 175 mm, + 25 mm), the SP offers greater ground clearance and a higher seat height. The saddle, with its grip-enhancing cover, is 890 mm high. Truly worthy of a Supermot. As an option, this can be lowered by 20 mm.
Dynamically, the machine gains in liveliness with Marchesini forged-aluminum wheels, featuring the same design as those on the lighter 1299 Panigale S, and shod with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires.
And also for its slimming diet. Three kilos have been shed, mainly thanks to the rims, but also to a small selection of small carbon parts, such as the front mudguard and belt guards. Note the magnesium cylinder head covers.
A little more fun on the electronics side. Like all Hypermotard models, the SP's engine management system includes three riding modes. Here, they've been recalibrated to make it sportier.

RACE: the Race riding mode delivers 113 hp, with instant response from the Ribe-by-Wire (RbW) when the throttle is opened, minimal intervention from the traction control system (DTC), and a high level of performance.and level 1 ABS effectiveness applied to the front only, with no rear lift control.
SPORT: Sport Drive Mode delivers 113 HP with a more progressive RbW response to throttle opening, medium DTC intervention and level 2 ABS braking efficiency with reduced lift control.
WET: the Wet Driving Mode delivers 75 HP with progressive RbW response to throttle opening, DTC intervention close to maximum threshold and ABS braking efficiency level 3 with maximum stability under braking and lift control.
immediately recognizable with its red-and-white Corsican color scheme and promising suspension, the 939 Hypermotard SP promises adrenalin-pumping thrills and fearsome efficiency on twisty roads, even more so when the curves get tighter and closer. However, this toy comes with a hefty price tag. The price tag is on a par with that of an old-generation hypersport; barely less than a 959 Panigale, but just as much as the ex-CBR 1000 or GSX-R. Machines that will have a hard time keeping up with the Hypermotard 939 SP on a mountain road...
