Motorcycle specifications Harley-Davidson1920 Softail Heritage Classic FLHC 2026 On the Road to Emotions
presentation of the 1920 Softail Heritage Classic FLHC 2026
The Heritage Classic is far less "classic" than it appears. While Harley continues to give it that incredibly charming look of a timeless retro custom bike, the level of onboard technology would surprise more than a few. The 2025 model features a larger engine and much more.
Enthusiasts will quickly realize that the most vintage of the Softails is embracing modernity. For starters, the spoked wheels are no longer standard (though still available as an option), and the exhaust pipes now converge into a single muffler.
On the other hand, the air filter box has returned to its classic round shape. What a secret! Because after passing through it, the airflow heads to a significantly redesigned engine block. Redesigned cylinder heads, optimized intake, redesigned cooling system...... the Milwaukee Eight has been modernized and its displacement increased. Here it is in its 117 Classic version—117 for the displacement in cubic inches, or 1,923 cc (55 cc more than the previous model); "Classic" refers to a configuration prioritizing ease of riding and a linear torque curve.
A bigger engine, mainly for better responsiveness
Indeed, the muscle is up. Just a little: the M8 puts out 156 Nm, which is... 1 Nm more. Not earth-shattering at first glance, but maximum torque is available 500 rpm earlier, at 2,750 rpm. More power delivered in the lower rev range means the sensations kick in faster. Horsepower takes the hit, dropping from 94 to 91. This massive twin will deliver even more pronounced kicks, but more in terms of power than vibration. Remember that the Big Block M8 has become much smoother than its predecessors when it comes to vibrations.
But where the Heritage really pulls ahead of its classic counterpart is in the electronics. The previous model had only ABS as a riding aid. The new model upgrades it to a Cornering version. Three riding modes are now available—Rain, Road, and Sport—each affecting the angle-sensitive traction control, power delivery, engine braking management, and C-ABS in its own way. Tire pressure monitoring is also included—cruise control was already present on the previous model. To access and adjust these new systems, Harley has fitted new switchgear and a redesigned instrument panel; and as a bonus, added small comfort features such as a USB-C port and an adjustable brake lever.

The Road Through Time
Yet, above all else, the bike manages to claim an identity worthy of the heart of America. It tells a story all its own. A custom bike to some, a cruiser to others, and almost a touring bike in the end—it is undoubtedly the most travel-ready of the Softails. And that’s not all. Whether at the handlebars or in the town square, it exudes a magnetic charm steeped in the spirit of days gone by.
For the wild ones, there’s the Fat Bob; for her, it’s the horizon. And in its rearview mirrors, we catch a glimpse of the Hydra Glide from the middle of the last century. Fortunately, its technical underpinnings are much more up-to-date. Because in addition to its modern electronics, the Heritage Classic completely overhauled its chassis and mechanics a few years ago.
Powerful engine; bold handling. It was time to take road performance to the next level. The frame has undergone a major redesign to deliver superior performance. With a design requiring fewer welds and fewer parts, the carbon steel assembly gains in weight and rigidity (+65%). A larger, stiffer fork works in tandem with a shock absorber positioned between the seat and the top of the swingarm. Gone is the dual-shock setup under the engine. Like all Softails, it offers improved ground clearance and superior handling. In 2025, all these improvements are complemented by a suspension retune (via new springs) for better balance.
This chapter of the Heritage also includes a revamped comfort package with lockable, waterproof hard saddlebags and a redesigned windshield, half-tinted black. Nice for style, but what about visibility? Except that both the rider and the Heritage are a cut above such considerations.
