lovers of big sporty twins no longer have to look exclusively to Italy. Honda has created the VTR for them, a sporty bike with character that remains faithful to the company's philosophy of versatility and easy access. The mill has character in spades. The manufacturer has designed an all-new engine, quite turbulent for a Honda. Water-cooled by 2 side-mounted radiators, it's a 90° twin fed by 2 huge 48 mm carburetors. You'll find torque spilling out all over the place, and a fiery temperament that manifests itself at the slightest twist of the right hand. Although a little linear, the mill pushes hard, unburdening the front end at the slightest opportunity. At high speeds, the front end is underloaded, making it light and influential. In sporty driving conditions, the steering is highly effective and the chassis agile. The VTR is firm, precise, exciting and well-damped, except on unfriendly roads. Braking is good, but limited when the going gets rough. It's not boring to ride, but its range is ridiculous. The twin is greedy and the fuel tank is only 16 litres. In 2001, this was increased by 3 (for a total of 19 liters), but it's still not enough. A very good sportbike, it also boasts a big sister, the SP-1, with an impressive track record.

My first bike after riding a 125cc until now, a real war machine I love it, it pushes all the time, super reliable and fun to ride, I highly recommend it Rating : 5/5
after an SV, the logical progression into Japanese bi, recovered from the back of a garage after 10 years in storage, a lot of work, rotten tank, disgusting carburetors, but today, after 1 year of hassle, it runs like clockwork, what pleasure with this machine, of a perfection rarely achieved.... I've ridden with sv, hornet, rsv1000, and ducati 848, but this engine, this behavior, it's a rail! reliability in spite of my troubles with it at first, once underway, it doesn't stop, it climbs like crazy, it's violent and smooth, a magnificent symphony! on road or track, a rarity! on the other hand, if the tap is replaced, forget it! it's expensive! but this machine is unique! a masterpiece! a pleasure at every turn, not expensive to buy used, and it eats up a lot of "sport" bikes like Porsche, Ferrari, and even Mclarren - yes, I've done it! on the track, a 2k bike vs. a 200k bike is fun!!! on a 400...
well, another one screwed me, but the first one got tasted...in short, a little monster...gets up to 200 in less than 10, adorable...but...very greedy!!!

Hello. Do you have the original pots on? Because the detonations can come from a too loose pot. Check the rear cylinder pot gasket, not at the cylinder head but in the inlet just after the 1st elbow. It disagrees quickly.
Or maybe the idle circuit isn't properly cleaned of carburetors.

I've just bought a magnificent 1997 vtr with 76,000 km on the clock, running perfectly well and in almost exceptional condition. What a feeling! It's an exceptional machine that runs really well, too bad it's a bit greedy, but hey... It's my first carbureted bike, and frankly, I don't regret it. Plenty of torque, excellent braking (avia hoses) and it doesn't go unnoticed with its arrow outlets. On those gaaaaaz to all V Rating : 5/5

French vaux mieux tard Model 2006
After a break of almost 10 years without a motorcycle, and having had fifteen wheels, mostly CBRs, I was already hooked on this bike at the time...
The repression, the uselessness of looking for motorcycles, made me turn to a bi (I'd had an SV650).
Honda being a benchmark for reliability, I snapped up a late 97 VTR, 50,000km, high MIG pot, black.
What a pleasure, it vibrates, that crazy torque, that noise, I love it all!

i've just bought one with 46500km, I've already been riding for 25 years, and I've done the Alps passes with friends. It's great for the roads, the protection is effective, it's not a tourer, but if you want comfort, buy a car. In the mountains, it's a real pleasure to drive, in third gear without touching the gearbox, and it pulls like a beast, with impeccable roadholding, very progressive drifting and immediate power. 2 pots devil to s\'entendre. No problem after a ducat 916, you'll appreciate it. On the freeway at 200 km/h, braking is hard but the bike reacts well even when you're too optimistic.
the ducat without the hassle and with the protection :-)

Hi everyone,
I've been riding a 2000 VTR for two years now, and after a year I was hit by the VTR curse...the front distri chain tensioner retired! So I changed the block (manual tensioner), converted it into a street bike and finally fitted a complete 929 cbr front axle... this bike is just brilliant... As for its shortcomings, the two mig high positions (chicanes cut) make you forget everything at the first stroke of the throttlezzzzzz..

i bought a 2000 in June of this year, I love everything about this bike, yes I know the autonomy and fuel consumption but I'm 58 and at my age you can't stop pissing
and for a few extra euros for the fuel consumption, it's a lot of fun to ride.

Superb machine,a 2002 model bought at 35000kms in 2010,after a few TPS modifications, carburetion, fork springs, brake calipers and aviation hoses, shortened 15X43 transmission,it's a real rubber band,I had a lot of fun with it and now despite its 85000kms,I changed the 2 timing chains this year and I plan to keep it at least until 100000kms and always have a good feeling about it! I change the chain tensioners every 30000kms as a preventive measure, and I change the clutch housing and clutch once. For the rest, it's the usual consumables. Rating : 5/5

French Yannick63 Model 2006
Crazy bike! It holds the road, it brakes hard, it tows like crazy and it's good-natured, almost squaring the circle (especially for a big twin)! On the other hand, it's true that you quickly become friends with the petrol station attendant, as the granny has a hearty appetite (in carburettor version like mine, mod 2002). I bought mine second-hand last year and haven't had much opportunity to ride it, but what a kick! It's a real blast around corners, and I haven't got the hang of it yet. For those who know it, I'd say it's a big SV650 Suzuki, with all the bells and whistles (except the fuel consumption, don't push it). Forza Twins! Rating : 4/5
French raynman Model 2006
a really nice bike
make sure you get the engine settings right: TPS, synchro and richness,
and it'll take you fast and furious
yes, range is not its strong point (especially pre-2001 models)
a few problems with the tension regulator and timing tensioners
beware of the braking system, which can sometimes be limited (remedy: avia hoses + CBR 954 calipers).

Happy owner of a mat black 2004 VTR with 15000 KM. So far, nothing but happiness, except for insuring it as it's considered sporty... But once these little problems are sorted out, it's a delight... torque as you like it with 48 carburetors! Compared with the injections, you can really feel the kick in the butt! it's pretty supple in spite of everything, and easy to handle: it's a blast!
Even when I'm out and about, I'm carried away by the sound of the mill "improved" by 2 remus grand prix in the original position..
This spout is aging serenely, both aesthetically and mechanically...it's solid!
my only regret is that I don't think I'll be changing bikes until it's definitely gone..
No other bike gives me the impression that I'll find as much ++++++..
I'll be off to my garage soon to tell her I love her...;-)

Everything has been said, and yet...
This is my 4th VTR out of 50 bikes, a 97 with 40,000KM
This one has low lazer pots, the previous ones had high DAM and DEVIL pots and low BOS, but still the same cavernous sound to make the Italians swoon
Consumption: when you love it, you don't count!
What's more, two euros more on a ride with a VTR or a Yam Diversion, what's your choice?
The only thing to watch out for is downshifting, and it's better to keep your hand on the clutch, like ROSSI (lol), to relieve the engine brake and the rear wheel lock-up
By the way, I rarely touch the brakes on a flowing ride, because she's got so much engine braking

the vtr works like a rocket but on this machine it's the feeling that counts. I have a pot with a 2003 zx6r 106hp and on the road in a straight line it's the same. on the other hand, when I try out hers I feel like I'm on a moped. the torque of this machine is a weapon when coming out of a bend at the 265 point, not at full throttle. the only default is the fuel consumption, 160km, and that's the reserve. to find out a little more, VTR MAG is a forum. long live BI Rating : 5/5

I've got my VTR!
1st test with the mechanic (who was riding a fazer): 160 on a small road in the middle of the pampas, I freaked out from start to finish! I pissed myself every time I hit the throttle! the rear wheel locked up as soon as you dropped a gear too early! I kept repeating to myself "don't downshift, especially not"!
after my 600 ZZR, wow, I've learned the meaning of the words "torque" and "rebound"!

the only drawback (not the autonomy, I don't care) is that the selector is useless! you put yourself in 3rd gear and do everything from 0 to 200! it's just great!

THANK YOU HONDA!!!

Hi everyone,
I have a 2000 petrol blue VTR F which is now on its 50,000kms
What can I say? One small weakness: the range, that's all. As for the rest, nothing to say, it's reliable, strong, precise and relatively versatile. A bike that, without making any noise, will forever remain a benchmark: well done Honda for the pleasure you get from riding it
I'd like to keep it for a long time, even though I've recently been eyeing a Hayabusa, just to get a taste of other pleasures, but is that really reasonable?

I own a 2000 model. The only hombre on the honor roll is of course the range, what a shame. This bike is a delight, light, not exclusive, torquey and good-looking, even if at first I had trouble with the petrol-blue color.
I'm currently having a cylinder cut-off problem, I can't tell whether it's the fuel or the ignition.
I've thought of changing it, but to what? I love it too much, it's fun to drive, even without any modifications, but the tires aren't 5000....

very good bike, after my 600 cbr my vtr looks like a monster. very torquey, super pleasant to ride (with practice) the change of gearbox output sprocket (-1 tooth) only improves the quality of the engine

only flaw, but we'll forgive it: it drinks a lot (8/9 l on average), but the right-hand grip is such a treat! :p

i have a 1999 VTR, bought second-hand with 3500km, I now have 65,000 km with no worries; apart from a slip on the Mt Cenis pass (a broken collarbone and 5 broken ribs!!) I upgraded my VTR by fitting a 2001 model 19 l tank + tap (no pb, just need to change the petrol hoses)) I've upgraded my VTR by fitting a 19-liter fuel tank, 2001 model + fuel tap (no problem, just need to change the fuel hoses); I've fitted a KIT DYNOJET stage 1 (change nozzle and needle + K&N air filter + shortened chain kit (2 more teeth in the back) + 2 MIG alu/stainless steel high position pots: the result is 1 l less per 100km (7 to 8l/100km instead of 8 to 9l; range up to 240km) Rating : 5/5

Sporty but not exclusive, this bike holds its own against the "hypersports" on our small country roads, thanks to its ubiquitous torque which allows a certain amount of improvisation, whereas GSXRs, R1s and other replicas waddle along on their "racing" suspensions and stay put when exiting curves as soon as the wrong gear is chosen. As for the much-criticized fuel consumption, it's not difficult to get it down to under 7L in combined consumption, provided it's properly adjusted and ridden over an ideal rev range of between 4 and 8000 rpm.A Sarthe man in love with his bike. I've just tested a 2002 VTR (for the record, I've got a 2003 636 ninja full) and compared it to mine

Pros: easy-to-read speedometer, flat handlebars, driver comfort, easy to handle
The minuses: only usable between 5000 and 9500 rpm, bland 100hp engine (little push, then not so much...), brakes with little bite, fuel consumption and choke (carburetor).

Hi everyone, like some here I tried a VTR F (currently I'm on TRX) but frankly I find my trixie quite pale since this test ... there's torque from 2000 to 7500 it's impressive, even with 2 it still pushes ... it's decided I'm looking for one ... (as for range, I'm keeping the trx: 260 km before the reserve, isn't that nice?? k&n, 130 nozzle, free exit) @+ Rating : 5/5

i've just bought a 97 vtr, 34000km i've made a super deal! and i'm bluffed when it comes to sensations!
in fact, i've been riding a 125 for 5 years, and i was quickly amazed at how easy it was to ride this machine. it's just like my 125, but with the added bonus of a mill that eats everything you throw at it. the acceleration is mind-boggling, and the handling is spot-on! only the fuel consumption makes me worry a bit... but i'll have to drive less! otherwise, it's not bad as a first bike!

i've had a 97 vtr for 7 years and i can't get used to the idea that one day i'll have to sell it. 109 hp at the wheel and max speed 285 mph. there's nothing better or more reliable on the market. Rating : 5/5

Super bike, I've owned one for two years (1st bike), year 97, I've had nothing but compliments. the only faults with the vtr (range and duo)
but what a pleasure to own it. we don't see enough of them on our roads. The twin is the best way to have fun on the road

Indeed, after having ridden a number of 4-cylinders, not least the 600 Hornet (doped), 600 CBR RR, 900 CBR and X11. What a bike the VTR is! It's a bit deadly under water, but as soon as the road is dry, it takes the wind out of almost everything on two wheels, and the pleasure is there right away, at lower speeds!

Long live VTR and non Homolmogués pots!!!!

Of all the bikes I've had the chance to try, this is the one that leaves the strongest impression on me. The engine is a pleasure factory that detaches your joints with every acceleration! Too bad I'm too old to come back and wear out my neck on a sportbike (I had a 1000 FZR full in the last century...). Rating : 5/5

2002 Vtr, great engine!!! Torque everywhere (-1 gear tooth). Range? It's easy to get used to.the only major drawback: the passenger's lot: no handlebar (hot under hard acceleration) and the comfort of the saddle (it's not a behemoth) Rating : 5/5

I've got a 2003 VTR, and it's deadly, even with a firm seat. This engine is always present, and it's a shame that Honda kicked it out of the French catalog..

A great bike, easy to ride, with the right amount of power when and where it's needed... Why take it out of the catalog? Mr Honda, give us back some twin-cylinders, or we'll go to Ducat'! In any case, I hope to keep my VTR for a long, long time! Rating : 5/5
