presentation of the KX 450 2022
The Kawasaki KX 450 returns in 2022 with the same weapons as last year. No changes to report. The 2021 vintage was more generous, with a number of modifications designed to fine-tune the machine. No major upheavals, but the same exacting standards on which Kawa's racing engineers have focused. The result is a machine that will satisfy the demands of intermediate to expert riders, who form the core of the big KX's rider base.
As far as the engine is concerned, the most notable change is the adoption of a dry lubricating film on the piston skirt, which reduces friction between the piston itself and the cylinder wall, to the benefit of performance.
Highly appreciated when first introduced, the KX 450's hydraulic clutch has been improved this season to reduce lever effort and widen the engagement range, making metering easier.
In the same field, Kawasaki engineers have revised both the friction material and the size of the discs. Disc size has been increased from Ø 139 mm to Ø 146 mm, while a new friction material helps to increase wear resistance. On disengagement, the slightly offset segments (in rotation) of the friction plates facilitate disc separation and reduce frictional resistance.
Finally, in terms of changes, a Fatbar Renthal handlebar is now standard on the KX 450. With a tube diameter of 28.6 mm, the all-aluminum bar helps reduce vibrations and shocks transmitted to the rider, while a handlebar position that's 19 mm lower and 8 mm closer together makes it easier to carry your weight on the front wheel.
Since 2021, this KX 450 has proved to be the most accomplished of all time. No choice in a segment where the competition is fierce.
