presentation of the EP-1 2023
You know India!?! From afar, like me, with Royal Enfields as the main motorcycle reference. We see a few of them in France, but a few million in this Asian peninsula.
Let's turn the spotlight on Hubli to discover a new brand, with great promise for a sporty machine that will wash away both preconceptions and certainties. Over 250 km/h and 500 km range for the Mankame EP-1. But not all at once...
don't plug in the transformer just yet. The EP-1 is still at the project stage, and is counting on participatory funding to get it off the ground. For now, no headlights, no mirrors, sharp angles, athletic attributes, a clear-cut but uninspired design; in short, we're going for the track and for the essentials.
As for the engine, it all depends on the version you choose. Mankame has provided three levels of power. No violence? Let's take a look at the "Commuter" - this is the basic version, with 16 kW, a 12.16 kWh battery, 300 km range and a speed limit of 120 km/h.
A little more spirit? The intermediate level, known as "Standard", gives 20 KW, almost 15 kWh for the battery, 400 km of driving and 180 km/h top speed.
Finally, the "Race". This top level will be made up of a 40 KW continuous element, capable of 55 KW peak power. In other words, the classic power of a medium-displacement roadster. Torque is worthy of a very big machine, with over 18 mkg. The battery here holds 18.4 kWh. Above all, the figures are eye-catching: 520 km of range, and a top speed of 251 km/h.

What about speed? How do you get 251 km/h with an engine that only produces 75 horsepower? The startup claims that aerodynamics are enough to achieve such velocity.
A fine performance... achieved in the laboratory, just like the 140 km sprint at 210 km/h the bike is said to be capable of.
The price is even more striking, almost unrealistic. The 16 kW EP-1 Commuter will cost $8,500, the Standard $10,500 and the Race $13,000. And this is not to the detriment of technical features. The chassis consists of a tubular steel trellis frame, Brembo brakes, an Öhlins inverted fork and a Showa shock absorber. The latter can be replaced by an optional Öhlins shock absorber. ABS and traction control are also included.
beyond the hopes this bike may awaken, the overall impression that stands out is one of " it's too good to be true ". An electric sportsbike with good performance, long range and low cost: where's the wolf? For some time now, the number of mirific start-up projects under the umbrella of participatory financing has been multiplying. And few of them have come to fruition. What's the latest on Vanguard Roadster, Skully helmets or NXT Motors? Will the Mankame be THE revelation or just another disappointment?
