presentation of the 800 BRUTALE RC 2018
By dint of multiplying the RC versions of its models, MV-Agusta no longer makes them a special series but... a trim level. This "segmentation" is widespread in the automotive world, but not very common here. It has to be said that this racing look is so pleasing that the brand can hardly resist applying it to all its models. After the F4, F3, Dragster and Turismo Veloce, the bubbling 800 Brutale RR also dips into the Reparto Corse mix. The result is lively and tough. Beware, it opens your eyes and shakes your connecting rods.
there's no need to go back over the Brutale's plasticity. It's the first thing that stops you in your tracks, whether on the web, in a magazine or at a dealership. In this raging, even fulminating livery, the machine brings out its full demonic roadster character. Medium displacement, but more powerful than some 1000s, that's what it's all about. Decked out in the colors of the bike entered in World Superbike, it exudes the aura of an over-activated wild beast. Discretion is impossible, but the warning shot is immediate. And once the 3-cylinder is warmed up, the ride can quickly turn from a laugh to a PlayStation-style Wipeout.
good-natured on the standard 800 Brutale, the engine becomes rougher on the RR. Its 140 hp make it a real handful. On the RC, the block is identical, but comes with an attractive gearbox, an SC Project exhaust system and a specific engine ECU. Once everything's set up, 150 grunts are ready to roll. A fine herd, that could almost tease the 1090 RR.
Almost, I say. The big sister's jug is of a different calibre. But whichever bike you choose, you'll find plenty to enjoy. On the 800 Brutale, the RC chassis is identical to that of the RR. The mixed tubular trellis/aluminium plate frame ensures sporty rigidity. The suspension, more elaborate than that of the standard model, allows you to fine-tune your handling. Brembo radial brakes, ABS, traction control, anti-stoppie, up/down shifter, multiple fuel injection maps - the list allows you to take to the road with confidence.
but the Brutale RC doesn't just pack a punch. It's also a series of beautiful parts to flatter one and all. There's titanium for the exhaust; carbon for the rear mudguard, part of the front mudguard, the cap over the dashboard and the side covers for the tank panel; a superbly creative treatment for the two-tone seat; and a wooden box containing the racing kit. This contains the parts already mentioned for boosting the engine (exhaust + ECU) as well as a protective cover, Ergal brake and clutch levers and certificate of authenticity.
Like all limited series, the MV-Agusta Brutale 800 RC will be produced in limited numbers only. 350 examples will leave Varese. The hardest part won't be acquiring them, but keeping calm when riding such a provocative roadster.
