new drivers, new sponsors, new motivation. After the stormy episode with sulphurous partner Brux, the Alstare team is returning to safer values in its choice of partners. Several years after its famous association with Corona, the GSX-R 1000 will once again feature an Estonian beer on its fairing. The VIRU brand will share the fairing sides with another sponsor, LOCTITE, better known to DIY enthusiasts. But for us Frenchies, the big attraction is the presence of Sylvain Guintoli on Francis Batta's team. With Leon Haslam at his side, the Montilian is set to make his mark in WSBK. His mount, the indispensable Suzuki GSX-R 1000, has been somewhat in the background of late, overshadowed by the new R1, 1198 R, RSV4 and S 1000 RR. There are no changes to the chassis or engine this year, but there's plenty of motivation to celebrate 25 years of the GSX-R saga. Suzuki shouldn't be far behind in pushing its hypersport to new heights.
its big four-cylinder remains a racing beast, full to the brim (over 210 hp at the rear wheel), but it's having a bit of trouble hanging up the class tenors. The chassis retains its excellent base, with a beautiful pressurized Öhlins fork, NISSIN monobloc racing calipers, an ARROW double-outlet line, an all-carbon fairing and ultra-light 16.5" wheels. It remains to be seen whether the 2010 season will bring the velocity it lacked in 2009.
