Suzuki has taken its line of high-temperament roadsters back into its own hands. Long gone are the days of the 1200 Bandit air/oil; the 1300 B-King failed to convince; and the competition is as furious as hyperpsorts. The GSX-S 1000 allows the manufacturer to enter the fray with strong arguments: a GSX-R 1000 engine with plenty of horsepower, a chassis closely derived from the eponymous sportbike, plenty of fun without becoming exclusive, and a Suzuki-style design. It just lacks that little something extra that gives it an original personality.

that could be arranged with this Yoshimura special series. Suz' has gone to great lengths to differentiate this edition. For a start, this GSX-S has been given a special paint scheme, with a grey coat and red protrusions. This is followed by a selection of parts to enhance the presentation: steering column nuts, diabolos for workshop stands, handlebar ends, oil filler caps and sump covers are all Yoshimura-branded. The famous Japanese accessory manufacturer also supplies the muffler. An R-11 model, it's a high-pitched, snarling voice that makes the machine lighter, weighing in at just 2 kilos. The original exhaust weighs in at 6.5 kilos.

the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 can be enjoyed as a single, as the passenger seat has been replaced by a matching seat cover, and the footrests have disappeared. Or rather, forgotten. These items will be supplied with the machine in a separate box. And let's not forget the occasional knick-knacks, such as rim stickers, tank protectors, matte-black handlebar levers and carbon-finish adhesive on the footpeg plates.
This special series is priced at 9799 pounds, and 500 more for the ABS version. In pounds? Oh yes, I may have forgotten to tell you that this Yoshimura version was marketed in the UK...
