presentation of the R9 900 70ème anniversaire 2026
YZF - When a sportsbike approached with the acronym on its fairing, you knew the powder was going to snore underneath. These three letters arrived in '93 on the side of Yamaha bikes, after a whole series of FZRs. Having recently disappeared (Yam models are no longer called YZF-Rx, but Rx for short), they're back this year to celebrate 70 years of Yamaha. Among the models chosen to represent this age, the R9 takes a special place.
Because in Europe, it's the brand's most powerful sports bike. Would you believe it!
On the open road. The R1 still exists, but can only put its wheels down on the racetrack. If you want headlights, mirrors, bracelets and horsepower, the R9 is for you.
Here, it dreams of its prodigious 1999 ancestor : the YZF-R7. So much so, in fact, that it features the same white and red speedblock motif. A plunge into a machine that still inspires dreams today, born for WSBK and capable of producing up to 160 hp at the time.
A racy design is the main distinguishing feature of this 70th anniversary R9. Observers will have spotted a small commemorative sticker on the airbox hood, the triple golden tuning fork, and the calligraphy taken from the first generations of R1 and R6.
Visions of their world
In love with the 750 YZF-R7, the 900 R9 had no intention of following in its footsteps. The former was all about racing; today's sportbike is less radical, less powerful (119 hp) and packed with electronics. Up&Down shifter, 5" connected screen, traction control, rear slip control, engine brake, wheeling control, 9 riding modes, standing start assistant, cornering ABS... A real R1 panoply.
Code name: YZF900R9 Anniversary White. Of course, the YZF name hasn't really disappeared. It's just hidden. Quite the opposite, in fact, with this machine, which is as much about the glory of a bygone era as it is about the fantasy of a great era Superbike.
