presentation of the MT-09 SP 900 2026

The SP recipe is a must for certain Yamaha models. Especially the MT-10 and MT-09. In fact, it was the SP that reconciled sportbike enthusiasts with the MT-09. As the two versions coexist perfectly within the range, the new generation is logically offered with the same duo. This time, however, the differences have been accentuated.

Especially in the front end. Yamaha has worked hard to ensure that this roadster awakens and sustains the spirit lurking within us all - hence the introduction of Brembo Stylema brake calipers. Virtually the very best* from the Italian equipment manufacturer for a road bike, and much more suited to the increased sportiness of the SP model.

The MT-09 900 SP is all about sport, riding, knee rubs and even a few circuit rides. Enter the Driving Modes and you'll immediately understand. The standard model has 3 pre-set riding modes (Sport - Street - Rain) plus 2 customizable ones. The SP adds 4 more under the Track label! Four ways of shaking up the engine on the track, with settings for electronic brake control, engine brake management (2 levels), traction, glide and wheeling controls, power mode and the option of deactivating the rear ABS. All from a smartphone or the dashboard.

Which features a 5-inch color TFT screen. The same as the MT-09, upgraded in this 4th generation. An exclusive bonus "Track" theme displays track-specific information.
The SP is also equipped with a Smart Key system. A first for a Yam' roadster. No need to take the key out of your pocket. The bike recognizes its presence, and a switch controls starting and locking/unlocking the fuel tank.

After that, it's back to the usual elements that add value to this bike. As in its debut, the "Icon Performance" color scheme takes its cue from the R1-M. The swingarm retains its brushed-aluminum finish, while the suspension raises the bar on efficiency.
As on the previous MT-09 SP, the rear shock absorber is a fully adjustable Öhlins. The Kayaba forks are gold-anodized and DLC-coated for easy sliding. The manufacturer still doesn't seem motivated to upgrade this 900 to full Öhlins. But already here, the ebullient roadster shows a higher level of efficiency, with stiffer springs and optimized settings.

Yamaha MT-09 SP 900and let's not forget the small changes inherent to Phase IV of the 900 Master of Torque: height-adjustable footrests and handlebars, a more engaged riding position, cruise control, the arrival of a Brembo radial brake master cylinder, acoustic amplifiers on the tank, a slightly revised design, Bridgestone S23 tires, a 3rd-generation Up&Down shifter and an engine validated for Euro5+. Rest assured, there's no impact on its 119 horsepower, which is just waiting to unleash its full driving potential.

for most of us, the SP name brings back memories of the superb 2006 YZF-R1 SP. The more curious can trace the origins of this label back to 1991, with the FZR 400 RR SP. Still today, it conveys a notion of superior performance that the MT-09 likes to put to good use... and that of its hard-core users.

* Brembo's Stylema R is a little better. Found on crazy sports bikes like the Panigale V4 SP2. A bit out of place for a mid-size roadster.
