presentation of the XVS 1100 DRAGSTAR Classic 2002

after 10 years of the 1100 chopper, the Virago hands over the baton to the Dragstar, a low-rider custom. Based on the outline of the 650, it completes a range that Yamaha can be proud of. The manufacturer boasts almost 6 custom models, including the Wildstar, Royalstar and Starventure, to name but a few. The standard version (18" front rim, more aggressive mudguards, narrower fork) remains in the catalog for just two years, while the Classic will cruise for over half a decade. No surprises in terms of silhouette, but more in terms of dynamics. The twin is taken from the 1100 Virago, with extensive work on the mechanics, including new cylinders, connecting rods and pistons. The two-cylinder engine is pleasantly responsive when called upon. It's the chassis that really moves us. The suspension does a remarkable job, ensuring comfort and gratifying the Dragstar with excellent roadholding. And with braking of the same calibre, you can enjoy a more muscular ride from time to time - especially as the bike allows. A custom that likes to play, we love it. And the price is more than tempting. Unfortunately, not everything is rosy. In first gear, the gearbox isn't a model of silence; as for the passenger, he'll soon be getting a mouthful.

French Marco Model 2000
I have owned this 2000 model motorcycle since 2010. All maintenance except for the battery charge voltage regulator which, because it is badly placed, overheats and can explode. I have relocated it to place it less close to the engine. Apart from that, this bike is exceptionally reliable. It is always a pleasure to ride it. Kind regards... Rating : 5/5

I've had mine since 2006, a marvel to ride solo or as a duo. No problems, except recently, the saddle was changed and the rear shock absorber. It's just as it was when I bought it, nothing's been changed. The chrome is like new. I'm completely satisfied, I love it. Rating : 5/5

owner of the dragstar 1100 for years, the clacking when stopping comes from the freewheel connected to the starter... dragstar disease, but at 18 000 little danger that it breaks the engine... personally, I change it at 65 000 kms Rating : 5/5
le kif mais la pollution pas glop
French Dany Model 2006
This is my first Dragstar, 52,000 km when I bought it and 2,000 km in 2 months, it spent 3 weeks at Yam for carburetor overhaul. i went to the MOT and the guy graciously probed the pollution, not only does it pollute quite a lot but there's an imbalance between the two cylinders CO corrected 4 and 2.6, O2 I'm at 5.2 and 7.1 the mechanic didn't do his job properly, or is it wear and tear on the segmentation, that's the question, if anyone has an opinion. Apart from these worries, I'm delighted. It's missing an oil cooler, though, which wouldn't be a luxury. I've added a processor fan against the voltage regulator, which makes more sense in 30° shade. Hello,
I'm still hesitating between a shadow 1100 and the dragstar 1100
My big problem is that I don't know which has more torque and acceleration.
I'm looking for brutality between the two on start-up
Which one should I choose?
Who can answer me please?

Best regards

Hello, I bought a 2002 Dragstar 1100 last month and I've already done more than 500 km without any problem...I'm having a blast with this bike, which I haven't ridden for nearly 30 years
On the other hand, it's fitted with Harley Davidson mufflers and the Belgian police have recently been hunting down noisy motorcycles, with fines and even threats of seizure... So I'm thinking of going back to quieter pots. Can anyone give me some advice?

caught fire and burned to the ground in 30 minutes in 30 minutes my leisure and pleasure of motorcycling went up in smoke and of course I hadn't insured it for the incident (a motorcycle doesn't burn)
so, in my opinion, I've got it all wrong

hello! i've been riding my dragstar for 15 years now, but last year i froze my original battery because of the regulator, also original! so i changed the battery and the regulator, bought on the net! i tested the charge and it gave me 14.8 volts with the lights off, and i did about 400 kms and there it was again: the battery swelled and the regulator didn't do its job! i asked Yamaha why it farted again, it could be that the Stator (alternator) was at fault? yet it charges well? so who could give me some advice on my repeated breakdowns! thank you Bibi Rating : 4/5

French Nico Model 2000
Two years and nearly 10,000 miles on it. Let's start with what's wrong with it: from the outset, it sounds like a blender, it's blurry at high speeds (i.e. above 120), the footbraces scrape every over-optimistic traffic circle, hairpin bend or bend anyway, the passenger will beg for mercy after 100 kilometers on the footstool (of the custom), the bouncy front end gives it about the precision of a pedal boat on rough roads, and it consumes far more fuel than it performs. BUT: its inaccuracy is made up for by astonishing handling thanks to its very, very low weight, the engine is as torquey as you could wish for in the mid-range, it's surprisingly comfortable for the rider, it's super-reliable, no chain maintenance and above all: you make all the trips at legal speeds with a smile up to your ears. And the icing on the cake: I've never had a bike that attracted so much sympathy. Rating : 4/5

Hello,
Can anyone tell me about the gearbox? I have a cracking noise on 3rd gear, and from what I understand, it's not an isolated case. At first I thought it was the cardan shaft. But that's not the case... The Yamaha dealer tells me it's going to cost me a lot of money (15 to 20 hours of MO, not counting parts, etc.), so much so that he's wondering whether I should change the whole engine. Which would be cheaper
In short: who can give me information on this subject?

démarrage souvent difficile a froid
a motorcycle that's fine. but when it's very cold (winter), if it doesn't start on the first try and even if the battery is well charged, you have to insist and in the end the battery drains and you're ready for a battery recharge and then start again. i've checked everything ready for starting and nothing: the starter motor turns and drives the engine, there's a spark, the spark plugs are ok, everything's good, the choke is halfway or at full power, nothing happens, and the fuel tap is open and there's fuel, so it should start! well, no!!!! Rating : 4/5
French dom
here we are. the solution is to dismantle and replace the spark plugs, which are still good, and after giving the starter a push to empty the cylinder heads, it starts up and runs perfectly smoothly. it's a machine that has extra torque for low-speed rides, but which accelerates with dignity when it's pushed a little harder. for me, 165 km/ was my maximum, but the bike's not made for that! Hi everyone, I don't say much but I just had to. I've been driving this little beast since 2000 and it's still the same, over 141,000 on the odometer, and it's still there, old-fashioned, a little rusty (the sea and salt are bad), and the starts are a little slow because it's out of winter and not yet maintained for the road ahead.it's a toss-up between heavy and light (poor technical specifications) for a 300 kg hen with a full load, she's easy to get carried away on wild rides. A minimum of care is required to avoid going off in the bends (naughty! if you don't manage your speed, you're out easy), and with a ground clearance of 15 cm, you can't do much to tilt it, and it's easy to hit the footrests. but it's a brave docile, so for the rider, once you're on the road, you'll be able to ride the tarmac in peace. All you need is a chick and a cocktail, and it's so cool. With its look, in the style of an old-fashioned 1500 harley, you'll make a lot of friends who love you, and truckers become even nicer than nice.one small drawback: it's a solitary machine, so the passenger would do well to fit out the rear with a metal tractor seat on springs and cushions, otherwise at the end of the road your passenger's ass will be in knots and his knees will be at chin level.otherwise, it's a great machine. I put in two personal carburetors to replace the original 16 and 18 with 2 32s, and I don't like it any more than before, but I get a lot of torque. fast static at 6,000 rpm, you still get a lot in your teeth if you want to rip it out for the creepy ones. 170 on the real thing, a little 185/190. the two carburetors make it a little softer when you pull it out, so you have to go into overdrive.for touring enthusiasts, if you set your idle speed right, you'll be able to ride at walking pace without any problems, and for long, cool rides with a passenger, you'll have a great time (no pun intended), and it's a great machine that's easy to maintain and ride. ground clearance 15 cm seat height 65 (original), which can be increased to 59/60 if you go below that height, you'll be too short and your hips will ache.accessories can be found or manufactured and parts are easy to find via yam japan via the states qu\'en france:exemple chaine distrib disque embaryage et boite 1500 â'¬ hors taxes chez yam par importations 760 â'¬ ttc avec boite complète et taxes additionnelles sur pièces de 98,55â'¬ donc toujours moins cher et pièces d\'origines numérotées et certifiées.a refaire je refait persiste et signe ! It's possible that your problem is with the starter brushes (carbon brushes) or the relay under the saddle. When you have the problem, check whether the current is flowing to the starter terminal. If so, the relay is good. In this case, use a wooden wedge to tap the body of the starter to move the carbon brushes, which are probably no longer touching the commutator. If this is the case, remove your starter and clean the guides and rollers, and check their length. If they're too short, change them! You can also send 12 volts directly to the starter terminal
Also check the two fixing rods if they're wrong, I had the same problem and changed the fixing.

I have the 2003 model, a real pleasure... except for the color (beuark). It's a bit slower than my old VMax, but more comfortable, given my small size. Weight-wise, no problem, even though I'm a woman. Over the last 6 months, I've had three or four strange breakdowns: you can't start it, you have to let the bike sulk for 5 minutes, and then it starts again, without explanation. And it doesn't seem to be the battery. Could it be the starter? Rating : 5/5

i transformed this starter since last year and I have no more problems with it. If you want the plans of transformation you contact me. Apart from this loose part, this bike gives me complete satisfaction, it has 24000kms, good rides to all. Rating : 5/5

Hello, I looked for the plans in my archives because my modifications date from 2006! To make these transformations it is necessary that the starter is in good condition and that you have some notions of mechanics and also the tools, give me your email address to send you the doc,

i've just bought the 2005 model, very pleasant, torquey, powerful, easy to drive with no nasty surprises, I recommend the windscreen options for comfort, and the additional lights for looks! Rating : 5/5
French salem Model 2000
model 2003 two-tone beige and brown metallic,it had been 20 years since I had ridden a motorcycle, climbing on this steel monster I was very surprised by its power, its torque is very appreciable and its driving very easy,I will soon reach 30. 000km and I never get tired of it.000km and I can't get enough of it... At the beginning of 2006, I'm going to get a sports bike again, but without giving up my dragstar... it's such a great bike... the only drawback is that you have to be very careful on wet roads... the cardan shaft transmission can play tricks when you downshift!... and the same goes for braking from the rear... but what a pleasure all the same.... French Dinek Model 2000
It's my 1st bike, used from 2000, and I don't regret buying it. When I go to work, I have no trouble getting back up the queue. With the sissy bar, my passenger is happy! But beware of speed bumps when 2-up! Rating : 5/5

French StormRider Model 2000
Super bike, immediate handling, attractive price, I ride about 500 to 800 km a week with it, 300 km of autonomy with the reserve, personally, I like the "clonck" buit of the gear selector, the ground clearance is sufficient for this type of touring custom, and the passenger position is perfect after adding the sissy bar (I'm 1m80 and my wife 1m67)
i bought a new 2005 model!

French RACH Model 2000
I've got the 2000 model, and it's powerful, interesting, comfortable, alone or in a duo; a bit heavy, but as soon as you're on the road it's ok, thanks to the engine's torque. Rating : 5/5
