presentation of the YZF-R6 600 Racing 2017

With its new R6, Yamaha shrugs off the disavowal of Supersport and returns to the WSS World Championship with more pride than ever. This 600 has already flown over the field, and its riders will benefit from the genetics of the R1 / M1 during the bleeding races of next season.

For all you circuit thrill-seekers out there, Yamaha presented the 2017 R6 "Racing" at the EICMA show in Milan. Inspired by the technologies of MotoGP's YZR-M1, while retaining the design typical of the "R" range, this racing machine prepares fans and racers for the 2017 season, during which the piston with the tuning forks will demonstrate its competitiveness in the 2017 Supersport World Championship.

It's the perfect tool for Lucas Mahias and Federico Caricasulo of the GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team, and for Niki Tuuli and Sheridan Morais of the Kallio Yamaha Supported WorldSPP Team. This medium-displacement supersport is very similar to the one they'll be riding next year, due to the championship's regulations, which allow only a very limited number of modifications to the production bike, relating to the cylinder head, gearbox, electronics, suspension and disc brakes.

A fairing consisting of two front sections and a rear seat shell, a titanium Akrapovi? Evo titanium exhaust system, a Brembo braking system with double front disc (Ø 320 mm) and single rear disc (Ø 220 mm), a telescopic fork (Ø 43 mm) with Ohlins cartridge kit, and Pirelli Diablo tires (120/70 ZR17M/C for the front and 180/55 ZR17M/C for the rear) in line with World Championship regulations, are also featured on this R6 presented at EICMA.

In addition to original accessories, these Racing components will be available through the Yamaha dealer network.

Already in production, the R6 proves its pure track orientation. Its 2017 redesign is far from going unnoticed. Using certain key elements from the R1, this sports bike is equipped with a new fairing and a new bubble that maximize its air penetration, a gain of up to 8%. The magnesium frame's rear loop is 20 mm narrower towards the front, bringing it even closer to the fuel tank for improved aerodynamics. The saddle is the same height as the previous model, but with a slight rise towards the rear, making it easier and quicker to move around.

The R6 was one of the first bikes to adopt advanced electronic components for precise control, including Yamaha's electronic throttle control system (YCC-T) and Yamaha's variable intake system (YCC-I). For enhanced handling in all conditions, it now features a handlebar-controlled traction control system (TCS).

The R6 features a new Quick Shift System (QSS) for faster gear changes. This system, similar to that used on the R1, immediately cancels drive torque when an upshift is detected. There's no need to use the clutch.
However, the battle will no longer have the same flavour with fewer rivals. But there's still plenty to enjoy as the 4-cylinder screams its way through taut trajectories and friction-laden corners.
