presentation of the XSR 900 2018

During an evening out with friends, the MT-09 realized that it could do even more. The Tracer, Street Rally and Sport Tracker episodes opened up new horizons, but the desire was even deeper. One nostalgic evening, after a glass of Super, a Sex Pistols poster and a few bolts swallowed quickly, she wandered into a poker night with the MT-07 and XSR 700. And bam, it clicked. It was obvious.

one phone call to Yamaha's parent company later, and the MT-09 was passed on to the Faster Sons workshop to become the XSR 900. Using the same recipe as the poker players. It's all about styling, spirit and a little daring. But the XSR 900 goes further.
First, keep the best. You might as well take advantage of the attributes that have made the MT-09 line so successful. The big XSR retains the aluminum frame and swingarm, the 41 mm inverted fork, the braking system (double disc, 4-piston radial calipers, ABS) and its excellent 3-cylinder crossplane engine. Full, lively, racy and playful, the CP3 is a delight to ride. You can forget about its 115 hp to enjoy its behavior and, above all, its responsiveness. From the outset, it's backed up by a D-MODE injection mapping system. Traction control can be set to 3 levels: min, max or off. Suspension is unchanged, but recalibrated to suit its identity. Except that the original MT-09 shock absorber is really limited in its performance. Changing it would have been more judicious.

Technically speaking, we know we're in for a treat. In terms of looks, the XSR stands in stark contrast to the MT-09. The neo-retro ambience suits it particularly well. It's less aggressive than the MT and almost more harmonious in shape. In any case, its personality is more pronounced. The round front and rear headlights, like the mirrors, are borrowed from the XSR 700. So is the speedometer, but its colors are reversed. The fuel tank benefits from a special trim that plays an active part in the bike's identity. As for the seat, it's a little more comfortable, with a more upscale finish and stitching.
Too bad the manufacturer couldn't hide certain elements. The plastoc boxes on the frame's shoulders don't do it justice. Aluminum plates, on the other hand, look good. A perforated series holds the headlight, while another customizes the rear frame. Other parts support the front mudguard. Aluminum isn't just used for the chassis; it's also used for the aforementioned parts, the tank covers and the rear mudguard. Yamaha has only added small plates to the sides of the radiator for effect, and has not overloaded it as on the XSR 700. Note the polished muffler tip, contrasting with the all-black exhaust line.

the XSR 900 doesn't just look and ride great. Like all its fashion-savvy friends and rivals, it has its own little world of accessories, clothing and Yard Built parts, so that everyone can create their own vision of the XSR.

you know what?!? Mr yamaha, fit it with a pair of bracelet handlebars, a single-seater seat, an XJR 1300 Racer fork head, a sportier-looking exhaust, Öhlins, and you'd have a great café-racer, not at all retro, totally neo, and with a formidable efficiency/pleasure cocktail.

happy owner since one month of an xsr sp ,it is one of the most pleasant becanes that I had until today ,even if yamaha could have made an improvement on the level of the passage of speeds ,I would have liked a softer box ,apart from that ,of happiness on the mountain roads,or fast roads Rating : 4/5

French 1306moua Model 2016
i love this bike it's beautiful it handles aggressively i've had it for 600km in full running-in. so far perfect, the 3 riding modes i've tried to push it a bit (i'm in running-in) on the freeway, and then, tragedy, a catastrophe, i can hardly stand on the bike so much i'm taking it in the face. i'm 1m73 and i had a wind jump put on it, i don't know if it's that or just the bike but i'm disgusted. have you had similar experiences? Rating : 4/5
une tuerie!!!!!
hello, I've switched from the versys 650kawasaki to the yellow and black Yamaha xsr 900 that I've been riding for the last 15 days, this bike is a success! balanced, light, much easier to handle than a z800, very good power-to-weight ratio, I've been riding two wheels since I was 12: moped, 50-speed, cross, numerous trails, including the famous blue 600 Ténéré with 30-liter tank from 1983. I come from a family of bikers, the only regret for the xsr is that the 14-liter tank is a little short by 2 liters....as soon as I saw it, it caught my eye with its retro look, but don't get me wrong, it's all retro, but beware of beginners, it sends out !!!!! C'est pas du pipo
French Bbr666 Model 2016
I tried it three weeks ago. I returned it 30 minutes later, otherwise I'd never have taken it home.
The only downside for me, but I come from an XJR1300, is that the engine doesn't seem powerful enough, so I'm waiting for the MT10 to try it out, but the look is much less good.

i bought this machine last week, and drove 500 km to get home with it. (yam's availability isn't up to scratch)
after a week's use, i can see nothing but good things about this machine.
now tastes and colors.... it's all a matter of point of view.
my previous machine was an S4R Ducati, so switching to a three-cylinder Nippon was quite a program, and yet I'm delighted with this machine.

Je suis amoureux !
French NicoProv Model 2016
I had the opportunity to try this little beauty this afternoon at the sunday ride classic at paul ricard. Well, it's a real killer!
It looks great, even if I don't really like the rear light, which is identical to that on the 700. The engine, derived from the mt-09, is really great: torque everywhere, at any rpm! Ideal for winding up without getting in over your head! The bike is super-light (compared to my fzs ^^ ), and the suspension proved sufficient for my intermediate level.
I got off with a bang, and now it's all I dream about!
Frankly, a success!

French Jicé60 Model 2016
It's a tortured design, it's not neat, and in khaki, it looks like a jarhead.
Effective but ugly ! Beurk !!! :o(
Even BFG would have done something racier!
Where are the days of the pretty and efficient Yam RD250/350?

not too classic, but very Neo! for me, this is the most beautiful version of the MT. I was looking forward to seeing the 700, but I think the 900 is even better!
bravo Mr Yam. I can't wait to get on it!
