presentation of the 850 MT-09 2018
phase II of the MT-09 celebrates its maturity. The roadster was already a big hit when it came out in 2013. Popular for its dynamic capabilities and price, it was already a serious offering. In 2017, Yamaha erased all the imperfections that stained the picture and it's immaculate that it's come back to us (at least on the canvas). Here's a quick reminder: 2016 Yamaha MT-09
the most criticized "flaw" of the previous generation was its lines. Clearly, the old one was... not quite finished. Now it's finished, with a new fork head that reminds us of the MT-10 (and especially Kawasaki's Z1000, but shh). The dual-lens headlight pierces the darkness of the Dark Side of Japan with its LEDs. Yamaha has decided to assert its style by offering us a machine that leaves us even more stunned by its singularity. Volumes are as uncommon as ever, with a heavy front end and an extremely compact, outdated rear end (the rear cradle is 30 mm shorter). The lines are very eclectic, with a plate support offset on the swingarm like the Italian beauties, and even more pronounced "V-max" radiator gills. The distinctive grey "crash test" colour scheme with yellow rims is also included. With this update, it seems to be transgressing stylistic landmarks that it had itself enthroned.

the second point on which the first generation caused a stir was its "rocking horse" behavior. On the one hand, this was due to its injection system, which was far too violent on the delivery of the net, and on the other, to its front end, which was extremely disappointing given the potential of the engine it carried. Get out your blotters, the forks have been redesigned! (Let's hope the fuel injection has also been reworked). It's presented as "top of the range" and better made, but above all, adjustable! (Compression, rebound, preload) The engineers clearly understood that the first of the name lacked smoothness, so they also recovered the clutch from the last R1, the "A&S", which is much smoother and saves up to 20% force on the lever. You can even see it equipped with the QSS shifter, also taken from its high-tech sporty cousin. It's all the makings of a special road rally machine!
As we 've seen, the MT-09 took over its class as soon as it came out in 2013. But it owes its investiture primarily to its engine. Despite the many contenders, it has managed to stand out for its impetuous character. the MT family's initials ("Master of torque") promise praise for round, peppy engines. The new generation seems to be just as bulimic and punchy as its predecessor. Indeed, the three-legged frame that gives it its furious stride, the famous "CP3" block, remains unchanged. The same applies to its die-cast aluminum perimeter frame. The three engine modes introduced in the last model update have been reworked. As a result, it's safe to assume that fuel injection has been adjusted accordingly. TCS traction control, introduced in 2016, completes the electronic panoply.
As you can see, the three-cylinder engine in the MT range has been completed and improved, much to our delight. Already the object of praise in its first version, it returns even more accomplished. Pricing remains in line, and Yamaha has potentially one of the most tempting offers on the market. The 09' will continue to lead sales (on the rear wheel) in its category. For more demanding enthusiasts, an SP version of the MT-09 with Öhlins shock absorber completes the range.

cartography with 3 distinct modes,
the tcs can also be set to 3 levels, allowing you to do little or no wheeling
the big drawback is its sway under full load, with some surprising left-handedness in the handlebars, due to the lack of weight on the front, and torque on the rear, BUT with a steering damper, this concern is quickly erased..
too bad the 2021 version is now very ugly, with its Cyclops-style headlamp and low-end finish Rating : 5/5 Respond to stefou
In short, an indisputable bestbest on the market today. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Kyokushin75
I replaced it with a 2019 Z900, and now it's much more consistent, safer, with a chassis that's more rigorous and more precise. I'm much more confident and the engine runs strong too! :) Rating : 3/5 Respond to Jamz33
