presentation of the 1000 MT-10 2018
Shortly after its launch, the Yamaha MT-10 had already received its first upgrades. The most notable of these was the introduction of a QSS shifter, for enhanced sportiness and lightning-quick gear changes. The engine-programming department took advantage of 2017 to revise the mapping, to make the crossplane's response smoother at low and mid-range speeds.
A hybrid midway between sportbike and "beefy" roadster, the MT-10 oozes big watts and promises unrivalled performance thanks to the 998 cm3 crossplane derived from the R1.
aesthetically, the connection with the supersport is obvious, thanks to the dual-lens front end.the dual-lens front end is inspired by the R1, while respecting the standards of the MT family with its side scoops. The result, tortured and complex to a fault, is sure to leave no one indifferent. Its ultra-short wheelbase (1400 mm) further accentuates its stocky, compact front end, making the new MT the most compact roadster in its class. In terms of color, Yamaha has opted for black, while adding touches of "electric" color for a resolutely urban look.
as for the mill, Iwata's engineers started from the R1's 998 cm3 cross-plane 4-cylinder engine, which they reworked to deliver more low- and mid-range torque. They worked on the fuel system, air intake and exhaust, and fitted a new crankshaft with optimized inertia weights. Power is worthy of the most belligerent machines in the category, with 160 hp peaking at 11,500 rpm. A little torque for flavor?! No, plenty! That's 11.3 mkg at peak 9,000 rpm. But don't tell me it's not true...
to tame this 'maxi-naked' machine, the rider can count on a bevy of high-tech assistance systems.
The D-MODE system offers a choice of three engine behavior modes. Standard, Sport(A) or Soft (B). Acting on throttle opening, ignition timing and fuel injection volume, each mode allows you to adapt to every situation.
The MT-10 also features a Traction Control System (TCS) which, unlike that of the MT-09 Tracer, will be adjustable to 3 levels of intervention.
In addition to its engine, the MT-10 also inherits the R1's assisted clutch (anti-dribble system).
For cruising in complete peace of mind, the MT-10 is equipped with a cruise control that can be activated on 4th, 5th and 6th gears, between 50 and 180km/h from the left-hand grip. Once activated, speed can be increased or decreased in 2 km/h steps at the flick of a switch. The system automatically deactivates when the brakes, clutch or throttle are applied.
as for the chassis, the MT-10 uses the same aluminum deltabox frame as the R1, but reworked to offer a more roadster-like riding position. The forward-leaning position has been set at a slightly greater angle than on the MT-09 to ensure optimum comfort at high speed. The wide, straight and slightly rearward-facing handlebars provide a natural seating position for sporty riding.

In terms of equipment, the suspension is the same as on the R1, with a 43 mm KYB inverted fork with 120 mm travel, combined with a trellis-type swingarm and KYB monocross shock absorber. Braking is provided by two 320 mm discs with 4-piston radial calipers at the front and a 220 mm disc with single-piston caliper at the rear. ABS is standard.
the MT-10 features a new multifunction LCD instrument panel.
Finally, Yamaha points out that the bike incorporates a number of deliberately exposed elements, illustrating the customization possibilities offered by the MT-10, such as the installation of different bubbles or side saddlebags, for example.

This bike is really anything. The queen of superlatives, cheeky as can be, and sweet when she needs to be. In short, I love it. Can't wait for the break-in period to be over. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Manu
1/4H to get the hang of it, and after that, it's a real pleasure to ride 10/10. But as I said, it's a bike for bachelors, and the passenger isn't even worth it. So either they make a touring model or I'll have to look for something else, unfortunately I do a lot of riding with a passenger, so that's not possible, I hope Yamaha will remedy that Rating : 5/5 Respond to fazer57
What I find distressing, since I've been riding a Yam for 35 years, is not having any information about it. Do they make a model like the FZS with a fork head and passenger comfort, or even accessories? Rating : 5/5 Respond to fazer
It makes you want to ride it.
I'm still keeping my FZ8 for a while, just waiting for the "monster" to arrive at the dealership for a test ride and........ of the occases on the market because the price....... not really up my alley,
