presentation of the 1050 SPEED TRIPLE S MK IV 2018

Just imagine! He was one of the first to make a mess of the streets, one of London's most punkish street gang leaders, a pussycat smasher like you wouldn't believe... and many a hoodlum came to twist his rods. Unthinkable, and yet...
And yet, when I look at him, this wolf's motorcycle with a heart of steel, I tell myself he's hiding his game well. From one load step to the next, the silhouette of the British streetfighter hasn't changed. The continuity of an enslaving identity, where the look is perhaps one of the most important in motorcycling history. Today, the Triumph 1050 Speed Triple returns stronger, more accomplished, more technological, more exhilarating.

And will charm with the same allure. In this evolution, it has lost part of its name. It's no longer the Speed Triple 100 S, but the Speed Triple S. The centenary has disappeared; in any case, we never understood what it meant... or what it wanted. To better distinguish between vintages, take a look at the rims. Yesterday's Y-sticks have given way to skewed stems, with a design akin to the PVM forged-aluminum wheels of the very first Speed Triple R. Apart from the shoes, you'll need a good knowledge of stickers to recognize it. Or stare directly at the new dashboard, your eyes wide with envy.

That's it, we're entering another dimension. That of full digital, tablets, colors and digital life. In turn, Miss Speed gains a TFT speedometer to great effect. The little Street sister had started the ball rolling, then the Tiger models took over. Triumph's star roadster couldn't bear to go on without one. Thanks to this lively 5-inch screen, the rider can read the on-board information with a slight fascination. What's more, it can show three different display styles, associated with driving modes. There are four of these on the Speed S: Road, Sport, Rain and Rider.
It takes more than that to satisfy the technological biker. And the new backlit controls are sure to please. A real treat, from the latest Tiger models. And one that's slowly gaining ground in the modern motorcycle world. And to think it's been 50 years since controls were switched on in cars...
Still? No problem. Cruise control is also on board. And for safety, there's ABS and traction control, which can be disconnected for those who want to play it safe. Experienced drivers will be delighted, while novices will have to learn to master the big 3-cylinder engine, more vigorous than ever.

The 3-cylinder has come a long way, and continues to evolve. Even if some would have liked a new base, the 1050 still has plenty to offer. Triumph has changed no fewer than 105 new parts to give it more watts, more liveliness and more torque at all engine speeds. This magic wand gives it a nice handful of extra 10 hp. With 150 grunts to dispense, the Speed Triple can return to battle with its head held high. And even if it's still giving the segment's top dogs a run for their money, its character and galvanized ardor will keep the pulse racing. Torque, meanwhile, has risen by 4% to a maximum of 11.9 mkg.

To find watts, the engine-makers had to make the mechanics take a few turns. Peak power is now 1000 rpm higher, at 10,500 rpm. No matter, the boiler is said to be livelier when revving up. To achieve this result, the manufacturer has increased the compression ratio, changed the pistons, lightened the aluminum liners and crankshaft pinion, installed new valve springs and high-lift cam profiles, redesigned the airbox and improved exhaust flow. The redesigned cylinder head allows better gas flow, which passes through an enlarged catalytic converter and a lightened catalytic system.
We've also worked on various ancillary elements: a lighter battery and alternator, a new oil circuit to eliminate a few hoses and air out the styling, a slightly reworked gearbox and a smaller starter motor.

As always, the chassis is of the highest quality and unchanged in its mission. Reminiscent of the captivating 955 Daytona, the aluminum-tube perimeter frame is fitted with a Showa monobracket, 43 mm inverted fork and shock absorber, both adjustable from all sides. Brembo brakes are powerful and convincing. The chosen equipment includes M4.34 monoblock radial calipers on 320 mm discs at the front, and a 255 mm disc for a twin-piston caliper at the rear.

the R version remains in the catalog, but is now called RS. Still with top-of-the-range equipment, including Öhlins suspension, weight reduction (3 kg), more advanced electronic assistants with an inertial unit, an additional riding mode (Track), carbon parts, a pair of Arrow mufflers and a keyless start system.
