This new Yard Built project marks the return of Jens vom Brauck, a long-time Yamaha collaborator. Jens vom Brauck, German tuner and founder of JvB-moto, is renowned for the minimalism of his designs, aiming to sublimate the spirit of the original model with an all-new look.

JvB-moto's first special Yard Built model was the V-Max "Infrared " in 2015, a design midway between the Dragster and Café Racer worlds that celebrated the 30th anniversary of Yamaha's iconic roadster-custom. Fully customized from subframe to mirrors, the"Infrared" model anchored JvB-moto's unique style within the Yard Built community.

This V-Max model was followed by the"Super 7", the first customized version of the XSR 700, demonstrating the huge range of options available (and sold by KEDO in Germany) to customize the production model. By reinventing the average XSR without touching its chassis, JvB-moto produced another machine that offered clean, uncluttered lines while taking advantage of the power and agility of the production bike.

an adrenalin-filled concept

Four years later, JvB-moto is back for another customization, applying its vision to the XSR 900 to create the CP3. The bike made its debut at the 2019 Café Racer Festival, where it was awarded Best of Show.

Speaking about his latest creation, Jens vom Brauck clearly explained his vision:

"The biggest retro influence is about lines and proportions. I'm a big fan of concept cars from the '70s and '80s, which were a big inspiration for this customization. The bike has a simple, uncluttered look, more reminiscent of a concept bike than a typical custom motorcycle."

The CP3 perfectly reflects JvB-moto's design philosophy of clean lines that highlight the production bike and serve as the basis for customization that breathes new life into it. Although the retro theme has partly influenced the design of the CP3, JvB-moto's design emphasizes that the bike is a Yamaha in its own right, and is easy to personalize. The dark blue Yamaha Racing color has been darkened and matted, highlighting the new bodywork while retaining the character of the production bike. Although its design is fundamentally minimalist, the CP3 features a number of avant-garde modifications that transform it from a typical custom motorcycle to a true concept bike. Carbon fiber wheel covers enhance the Pirelli Super Corsa tires, and Beringer front brake discs provide extra stopping power. Lightech footrests help reduce weight and provide a safe platform for the rider, with a new seat that adapts to the feel of the CP3.

JvB-moto wanted the CP3 to carry over the powerful 850 cm3 3-cylinder engine from the MT-09, 900 Tracer and XSR 900. It was left unchanged during the customization process, and the tuner designed the visual aspect of the bike to evoke the riding sensation offered by the engine. The Termignoni exhaust amplifies the stirring sound of the 3-cylinder engine and provides extra power, allowing the CP3 to raise the bar even higher for special Yard Built models. Jens vom Brauck elaborated his approach as follows:"I wanted it to be fast without appearing aggressive, to be less retro and more minimalist, with a simple, purposeful design."

a concept bike for the customer

As well as offering a stunning new concept bike, the CP3 from JvB-moto shows how it's possible to modify the 900 XSR. That's why JvB-moto is currently developing a kit enabling customers to reproduce their own CP3 or adapt certain parts, emphasizing that the bike can be adapted to the vision of the intrepid tuner looking to easily realize his or her own set of customizations for this Yamaha.

Other parts have not yet been developed. JvB-moto hopes that this customization kit, which will give customers almost unlimited options for modifying their own XSR 900, will be available to customers in early 2020.
