presentation of the MT-10 SP 1000 2022
The MT-10 SP stands proudly as the queen of Yamaha's roadster family. This heavyweight benefits from the latest developments in Phase 2, while retaining its premium credentials. It has to be said that the brand wanted to offer a formidable machine in the streetfighter segment. The first one hit the nail on the head; the new one is perfectly in line.
The most obvious and visible added value of this SP is its Öhlins suspension. You don't change a winning team. All the more so as the quality of the components instantly provokes a mixture of respect and envy for those who are unconditional fans of road (and occasionally track) efficiency. Requirements are silver, but damping is gold.
A beautiful 43 mm inverted fork, a shock absorber hidden between the frame and the aluminium (brushed) swingarm, an electronic management module, a few micro-motors, sensors and a new valve damping technology offer semi-active capabilities to the MT-10 SP. The rider can choose between 3 automatic and 3 manual modes.
In the former, the suspension adjusts at any moment in rebound and compression according to one of the following scenarios: A-1 for sporty behavior to enhance feel and chassis stability; A-2 for highway-like homogeneity; A-3 for greater comfort on less nervous rides.
But for more personal use, the 3 other maps allow you to save your preferences by fine-tuning rebound and compression, without the electronics interfering while you're driving.
This is THE main difference between the SP and the standard version. Like yesterday, it also has its own specific color scheme. Like all SPs, it's inspired by the R1M, with its tawny blue, aluminum gray and lacquered black tones. As a bonus, it also gets an engine cover and aviation-style brake hoses. This adds just 2 kilos to the weight.

Riding aids are identical between the standard and SP models. There are almost as many as on a hypersport. Let's keep it brief, so as not to have 14 chapters to swallow. Iwata's hyper-roadster comes with four power modes, an Up&Down shifter, cruise control, angle-sensitive traction control, cornering ABS with 2-stage splitter, a 6-axis inertial unit, glide control, wheeling control, engine braking (2-stage), a 4.2-inch color TFT screen and four riding modes grouped together in the YRC riding control.
A naked R1-M, with fewer watts and more comfort - that's the MT-10 SP in a nutshell. Its potential is high-level, its engine exhilarating and its styling has the merit of not going unnoticed. This second episode promises to be a little more challenging; not really more accomplished, but fine-tuned to confront today's very high level of fighting.

Maintenance
Yamaha France is recalling its motorcycles equipped with the CP3 engine (2021-2025) due to a fault in the ECU settings. This problem causes the TPS sensor to malfunction, resulting in premature wear and the accumulation of abrasion particles. This can lead to unstable idling, engine stalling and the appearance of error code P2135. The solution: "Reprogram the ECU and replace the TPS sensor," says Iwata.
