presentation of the 700 Ténéré 2022
The sun casts a shadow underfoot, hugging the irregular contours of a surface that's as playful as it is trappable. The boot lands, sinking slightly at an angle into the thick golden semolina. A little further on, it ripples with a flick of the wrist over the few pebbles that have been lost by the millions.
The footprint will be swept away in a few hours by the wind, the dust, the Hesperides, while a gear is engaged to get the 700 Ténéré off the ground towards the adventures it desires.
The time has come for Yamaha to bring back a medium-displacement raider. Ever since the market was flooded with huge trail bikes, more or less capable of going off-road for trails and rocky terrain, there have been few machines with measured dimensions that are really ready for raids of any kind. But manufacturers have sensed this trend, and new candidates are announcing their promises. F 850 GS or Africa Twin in their own right, 890 Adventure with the same objective, and Iwata's machine - a mid-size Ténéré with big legs and just as much ambition.
The XTZ 660 had been left to occupy this terrain for almost 10 years. Then the T7 concept kept us waiting. Until this all-terrain trail bike(pleonasm.... plus today) with a physique very close to that of the prototype. With its tall, slender build, sequoia-like face, 4-globe eyes and gazelle-like profile, the Ténéré 700 immediately sets the tone. Crossing, exploring, discovering, tempting, daring - that's what it exudes in its silhouette and technique.

Nor does it intend to compete. It opens doors to racing, nuance; it wants to cross fords; it wants to reach Dakar, not win it. To achieve its generous ground clearance, the 43 mm inverted fork slides over 210 mm. Fully adjustable, it holds a wheel already ready for expeditions, with a 21" spoked rim surrounded by a 90 mm narrow nipple tire. The shock absorber has a barely reduced travel of 200 mm. It only offers preload adjustment, but with a remote knob, more practical than the usual notched ring. At the end of the aluminum swingarm, an 18-inch wheel accommodates a 150 mm-wide tire. Braking is provided by two 282 mm front discs with 2-piston calipers; the rear disc measures 245 mm, topped by a single-piston caliper.
Cross-country capabilities come at a price. With a consequent seat height of 880 mm. This is hardly surprising for a machine of this stature, but you'll have to think about it when you have to climb over it. Apart from this effort, the ergonomics are not half-measures either, with a refined seat, cladding and fuel tank to hold the machine securely, whether you're riding seated or standing up.
A slim fuel tank..... Often means small. At 16 liters, the 700 Ténéré's fuel tank isn't small, nor is it bulky, nor does it conform to the canons of big machines eager for international touring. Up to 30 liters can be found on the R 1250 GS Adventure and Ducati Multistrada 1260 Enduro. The Ténéré is not worried. In fact, it boasts a range of over 350 km.

And protect it properly, while you're at it. A pair of handguards will help you avoid some of nature's surprises (branches, flying stones or snakes, suicidal insects). The bubble rises high and straight to protect head and chest, aided by two side deflectors. The support bar also allows you to install a GPS or roadbook.
Clearly ready to take on a wide range of terrain, it's thinking of recapturing the spirit of the fearless, no-holds-barred machines of the great rally-raid era.

So, personally I had a ground-to-ground missile (1290 Superadv), then to save the license a new SWM 650 Superdual that broke down three times in six months and 12,000 km, so I chose safety with a 650 Vstrom for a year to get to the 700 Tenere in September 2019
My opinion after 7000 km: not as good as the Vstrom on the road (comfort, roadholding, protection, range, comfort and duo), but much better off-road, and much more fun if you push the pace!
After all, it's a question of taste, and above all of equipment, because I fitted the crash bar, the luggage rack and the yam panniers, which are in fact Givi products with the Givi logo, and above all I redid the rear seat + 5cm of foam to accommodate my other half properly. My only regret is the fuel tank, which should be 25 liters to be able to ride far and long, as I like
In short, a great bike that lets me enjoy myself without being paranoid like with the big KTM, which was marvellous, but where I saw speed cameras everywhere (4 months on foot), which makes you think!
Not a frustrating choice, and one that makes sense!
Have a good ride! Rating : 4/5 Respond to Christobal
Compare also with the price of the AT750 at the time, it's a load of rubbish! Years between the 2 models, information and so on! If the t7 has people talking about the truth, it's because it's an excellent, versatile machine. Yeah almost 10k it hurts but that's bikes now !
The 790 adv also has nothing to do with it, it's 12.5k without options! The base version has worse suspension than the t7. Aim for the 790 adventure R to get something better, but that's still 13.5k without options! Are we talking about an 800cc at 14k? Nobody says anything! Not to mention the maintenance at ktm!

A V strom that weighs 6kg more, has less weight but is much more comfortable is 2000â'¬ cheaper! For 10,500â'¬ you can get a Tracer 900... WTF?!?! Rating : 1/5 Respond to Lahouz77
Apparently you didn't quite understand my point... I don't ride a tracer 900, I have a 2008 v-strom 650. What I was trying to say, when comparing the price and equipment of this Ténéré 700 with other all-rounders, is that the value for money is rock-bottom. But hey, we've been talking about the Ténéré 700 for 3 years, so it'll sell! And Yamaha knows that anyone who buys this kind of pseudo-enduro bike is convinced and will give up their ten-thousand-dollar bill without a second thought. And I've got it, Mr. Know-it-all, very aggressively to boot!
The 750 Africa twin came in at 7500â'¬... what justifies the 2500â'¬ extra?!?! Maybe it's clearer to you now...
Thanks to motoplanete and bon routes to all (No, not just to those who "have it all figured out"... ah ah ah)

2500 euros more than the MT07 for equivalent technology and equipment? At nearly 10,000 euros, you might as well be buying a much lighter KTM 690! Rating : 4/5 Respond to Teabee
Great bike for touring, but nothing more. 48 hp for 170 kg dry weight.
I've had a few good enduro bikes (Honda XR 600 and 650, Husky 610 with left kick, KTM EXC 450) in Africa and I ride a KTM 990 Adventure.
The new Ténéré will come up against the KTM 790, which is only slightly heavier but more expensive, but makes 95 hp, and the KTM 690 and Husky 701, which are only 145 kg for the same power, and only slightly more expensive.
Worth a try, but the enemy on the track, as in aviation, is weight.
183 kg is too heavy. Rating : 3/5 Respond to Viel enduriste
Will we finally get a lightweight bike? Rating : 1/5 Respond to 4sStylZ
The only interesting tests would be compared to these two sister bikes 690 and 701 (same engine...) because comparing the Yam T 700 to the Katé 790 Adv R will bring us nice politicly correct comments like they are each worth their price!!!!
NO! we want a comparison between the Yam T 700, the KTM 690 enduro and the Husky 701 Dual enduro.
Same power but not the same weight. Rating : 3/5 Participate in the conversation
