presentation of the M 1000 RR WSBK Champion Edition 2024
BMW has Toprak Razgatlioglu to thank for the rest of the year and the rest of his career. The Turkish rider has brought home a holy grail to the Bavarian brand’s trophy case: the World Superbike title. A goal the S 1000 RR set for itself some fifteen years ago. It was a long, grueling, frustrating, and exhausting journey; but here we are: a rider has been crowned WSBK World Champion on a BMW.
Since the M 1000 RR accompanied him on this quest, it is fitting to honor them both together. The factory has therefore decided to release a special edition simply named the “WSBK Champion Edition.” Fifty-four units are planned, all destined for the German market. But BMW is leaving the door slightly open, with the possibility of creating additional units on a case-by-case basis.
What sets this limited edition apart, which is 50% more expensive than the standard M 1000 RR? First, it sports a stunning race-ready livery, an almost exact replica of the official machine. Colors, sponsors, racing stripes along the fairing, and the large race number, 54, on the fork crown—it’s all there. It’s as if Toprak’s bike rolled out of the pit with nothing but a pair of mirrors.
It comes with a good selection of carbon parts, such as the license plate holder, frame guards, swingarm and clutch cover guards, the seat cowl, and the upper tank panel. The latter is signed by Razgatlioglu himself and then coated with a layer of varnish. Buyers of this limited edition will also receive the Lap-trigger GPS lap timer, a voucher for an Akrapovic Evolution-Line titanium exhaust, and a meeting with the champion himself.
The M 1000 RR comes standard with a maximum output of 212 horsepower. Once you install the Akrapovic exhaust—intended for track use only—an additional 10 horsepower will be added in the mid-range, not to mention a few extra Nm of torque (+9 Nm at 8,450 rpm and a maximum of 121 Nm). The weight reduction amounts to 6.7 kg. Fortunately, fighter-jet-grade electronics keep a close eye on things.
Of the 54 units, two have already been allocated: the first (01/54) will be given to “El Turco,” and the last (54/54) will join the BMW Museum. Each unit will come with a certificate of authenticity signed by Markus Flasch, the head of BMW Motorrad. If you’re a top rider with some savings, a die-hard collector, or an M1 owner, you might try to sweet-talk BMW to get an extra unit.
