Enough to satisfy track racers, competitors and collectors alike. Ducati is not shying away from adding a new and exciting limited series: the SP2 30° Anniversario 916.
The 916 is unmistakably at the heart of Bologna's sports bike history. Whatever the machine, the performance or the design, the legendary 916 is always mentioned or suggested. This Panigale V4 SP2 does so with prestige, bordering on luxury. The name/number inlaid in the fairing sides transcends the bike like a tattoo synonymous with immortal love.
Ducat' won't hesitate to harangue that the genes of the 916, its spirit, its look, the construction of certain elements can be found in the 30° Anniversario. Mouais.......
OK, it's a little more pronounced than on theprevious edition, the S 25° Anniversario, but let's not go beyond the idea of homage before seeing it as a revival of the 1994 superbike.
There's one person who's inseparable from Ducati and the 916. Carl Fogarty! The English rider won 4 world titles with this bike. So, the Panigale V4 SP2 30° Anniversario is decorated in the memory of the 1999 competition model, with the 1 very prominently displayed, and Italian-colored piping on the fork head and rear shell.
There are also a few references to the production model, such as the laurel wreath on the tank and the gold trim around the big 916.
If this bike proves to be a rarity, two factors will come into play: firstly, the price, customarily toxic and symbolically just above that of the Panigale V4 R. Secondly, distribution: 500 examples will be marketed, all identified by a certificate of authenticity and a sumptuous machined aluminium fork crown with the serial number laser-engraved in the metal.
Another delicate moment is the perforated, topstitched leather saddle, with dedicated "30°" embroidery. The factory also installs additional carbon parts on this special edition (exhaust heat shield and air ducts to cool the brake calipers).
dare to take it to the track? No problem, Ducati also supplies a license plate removal kit, aluminum covers in place of the mirrors and a keyless racing fuel filler cap in brushed aluminum. A dedicated cover to protect it when it's resting, and you've got your fill of prestige.
Until the Panigale V4 starts. Because, before being a tribute to the 30th anniversary of the 916, this bike is first and foremost a Panigale V4 SP2 - in other words, a highly performance-enhanced hypersport, virtually on a par with a Panigale V4 R (requiring very serious technical experience to operate).
Its big 1103 cm3 V-4 delivers just as much power as the other Panigale V4s, 215.5 hp and 12.6 mkg - but a whole host of features make it more efficient. We'll start with the semi-active Öhlins suspension, borrowed from the S model, and then discover the SP2's exclusive features: carbon rims to boost agility (3.4 kg lighter than the Panigale V4) and reduce inertia by 26% at the front and 46% at the rear, a more efficient, smoother STM EVO dry clutch in the anti-dribble phase (with the option of a spring-loaded regal), with slightly more power under acceleration, even crazier braking with Brembo Stylema R calipers controlled by a Brembo MCS 19.21 master cylinder, a 520-pitch chain for greater feel and less power loss, Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires and adjustable footrests.
when it comes to electronics, the Panigale V4 SP2 has everything Ducati has to offer: 4 riding modes, cornering ABS, DTC EVO 3 traction control, DPL Launch Control, DSC glide control, DQS EVO 2 Up&Down shifter, EBC EVO engine brake management, DWC EVO wheeling control and automatic tire chock.
As a bonus, DDA+ with GPS lets you analyze your performance after track sessions.
Back to carbon for a moment. The 30° Anniversario edition offers a number of parts in addition to those on the SP2. These include winglets, front mudguard, heel guards, chain guard and open clutch cover.
More than desirable, isn't it!?!! The Panigale V4 SP2 30° Anniversario 916 looks like a racing diva AND junkie. The kind of machine you'd leave a kidney for. For many, it will be a fantasy. For Ducati, it's a formidable new tool for technical and commercial expression. The proof: it sold out in 4 days.
