Motorcycle specifications BMWK 1600 GTL 2016 The symphony of a ship

2016 comes with a few bonuses: ABS Pro is included as standard. This improved anti-lock braking system varies braking pressure according to various parameters (cornering, lateral acceleration, angle of rotation). As a result, the more the bike is on an angle, the less the jaws are used, to avoid losing the front end when cornering.
There's also the Control Brake Light, a system that flashes the brake light faster or slower depending on the intensity of emergency braking, with the warning light coming on at the end of the deceleration phase. This way, those behind can assess whether you're braking more or less like a deaf man, and whether things are going badly up ahead.
2015 and its updates. Introduced on the Exclusive version, the Keyless Ride system arrives on the K 1600 GTL (and GT) as an option. Like a car, this system lets you keep the key in your pocket and remotely lock/unlock the fuel tank, suitcases, steering column and ignition. Also available as an option, the GTL can be fitted with Hill Start Control, which facilitates hill starts. Standard equipment includes DTC traction control. Also noteworthy is the slightly revised dashboard, with new calligraphy and inlaid chrome surfaces.
tHE ship for the road. A new dimension in dynamic touring, where comfort and liveliness cannot exist without each other. This symbiosis is the essence of the K 1600 GTL. An ambassador of BMW Grand Touring, with a prestigious engine, an empress-like silhouette and formidable pride.
the pinnacle of the BMW Motorrad range, the K 1600 GTL has replaced the K 1200 GT, shaking up all the codes established by the latter. Gone is the bourgeois GT concept to compete with the Honda Goldwing. The GTL is far more dynamic, less chubby in its lines and handling. In fact, it doesn't really compete with the GL 1800, but rather with the Pan-European and the Gold. The German is much lighter than the Japanese, 50 kilos lighter, and its mill does not play the same part. As Béhème is also a car manufacturer, we could easily draw a comparison with a 550i. Compared to the K 1600 GT, the GTL is more roadworthy, more comfortable, more sedan-like. Protection is better, with a larger-calibre bubble, and the seat is more senatorial, with a lower seat height and lower, forward-mounted footrests.
the big highlight of the new K is, of course, its engine. The in-line 6-cylinder is almost a religion at BMW automobiles, where the various displacements are benchmarks. But in motorcycling, this architecture has equipped very few models in history (Kawasaki Z 1300, Honda CBX 1000, Benelli 750 Sei). And today, only the GL 1800 Goldwing is powered by a 6-legged, opposed flathead. BMW has therefore given itself the means to offer a noble, extremely well-designed motorization. The boiler weighs just 102.6 kilos, and is 56 cm wide (narrower than a gas stove). It develops 160 hp at 7,750 rpm and almost 18 mkg at 5,000 rpm. 70% of this muscle is available from 1,500 rpm, i.e. just above idle. The brand is so proud of its engine that the cowling is cut away to show off the side casings. The mufflers also get a nod, with two triple exhaust outlets.
A must on today's temperamental engines, this GTL features a choice of three injection mapping configurations:
- Rain, with reduced power and smoother engine response
- Road, the right compromise between performance and a greater preference for fuel economy
- Dynamic, where the engine doesn't give a damn about fuel consumption, offering the driver the full force of its velvety cylinder ballet.
just as it has done with its cars, the Bavarian brand applies the same demand for excellence to its new powertrains for two-wheelers. If the S 1000 RR kicked Japanese ass in the sports sector, the K 1600's 6-cylinder engine brings top-quality vigor to the touring segment. But it's not just the mechanics that add value. Whether standard or optional, the K 1600 will be controlled by a small army of electronic chips. Injection mapping, ABS, traction control, ESA (automatic suspension adjustment), cruise control, tire pressure indicator, and a particularly interesting new feature, lighting that adapts to the road profile. The video below explains better than a speech how it works. Basically, xenon lighting corrects itself according to the motorcycle's movements, allowing you to light up the road once you've turned the corner, whereas traditional lighting tends to light up the roadside and the rabbits wandering around the fields. A nod to production harmonization: the nightlights are now circles of light around the headlights, as on the German manufacturer's cars.
just as technologically advanced, the chassis relies on solutions developed by and for BMW, especially in the area of suspension. Already present on the K 1300 (since the K 1200 S, in fact), the front axle consists of the famous Duolever double wishbone, backed up (as an option) by ESA 2 and a pair of 4-piston brake calipers. As attached to a BM tourer as a slider is to its combarde, the Paralever is still part of the equation, combining the elegance of a single-arm with a cardan drive, articulated to get rid of torque effects. These elements are joined by an all-new aluminum frame. Its perimeter-structured longitudinal members spread out at gearbox level to pass over the engine's cylinder head, which is itself inclined 55° to the front.
mechanically superb, technologically appealing, the K 1600 GTL must also be a top-flight cruiser. And cruising is its thing. It comes standard with two side cases, a large top case that doubles as a passenger backrest, 27.5 liters of fuel (the Kservoir of the K 1600 GT is smaller), sound system, heated grips and saddle, cruise control, on-board computer, and a control station reminiscent of a Bavarian sedan. A 5.7-inch TFT screen sits between the traditional needle-type meters, allowing you to control all the bike's functions. Between the dials and the electrically adjustable bubble, you'll find a slot for the in-house GPS, turning your dashboard into a real Airbus cockpit.
this K 1600 GTL completes the rejuvenation of BMW's image. Before, the brand's touring cars were cushy, comfortable machines, but they didn't really thrill. Now, BMW's Grand Tourisme will become a benchmark of dynamism and prestige. Its engine is the only in-line 6-cylinder on the market, its technology makes it a shock cruiser, and its skills seem clearly a notch above, even if fans of senatorial comfort will find it a hair too sporty. Today, BMW leads the way.

I have just acquired my little toy
K16 de 2011 57000kms suivi chez bm.je vais au taf avec et au démarrage un claquement moteur et un peu de fumée du pot d'échappement apparaît et dur 5,6
Seconds and the noise stops
Should I be worried?
I've just taken the bike away and it's not noisy
Some reviews on the net talk about
engine oil that's too cold and doesn't do its job, and once it's hot, no more worries. What do you think?
Thanks in advance.

i would like to know the average oil consumption per 1000 km of a 1600 GT. I consume about 300 ml per 1000km, is this normal? I also own a 1000 gtr with 110,000 km which consumes almost nothing.
Could you please give me some information.
A bientôt et marci d\'avance. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Eole
It's true that there's no reverse gear, but it's lighter to handle, and the big differences are power and weight. On the other hand, I find that the engine revs faster on the k1600 (odd for a 6 cyl)
It's much sportier to ride. Rating : 4/5 Participate in the conversation
i just sold mine in 2011 with a lot of regrets.
Do you have any news about this damn reverse gear, which is essential for a bike of this size, especially as I'm small?

i've stuck an anti-reflective phone film on it (cut to size), and it's not too bad. Be careful not to use clear films, which reflect too much light.

To answer pat_ice, the whistling is linked to the engine architecture, which is different from the flat 6. At first it bothered me, but now I don't worry about it. As for the rear brake, that's normal too: the handle acts on both, so you don't need to use the pedal if you're using the handle. As a result, if you press a little too hard, you trigger the ABS at the rear, hence the jerking. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation

extraordinary bike from every point of view
the only problem is that the cases are covered with a transparent plastic film that gets dirty with boots (black marks) and is impossible to clean, the marks remain

great bike in every way
but I felt like an idiot when I had to be pushed by friends because this beautiful machine has no reverse gear and I was stuck on a slope in gravel. The bmw engineers should learn to think a little about the problem Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation

my last ones were honda pan and yam fjr
i've had the GT1600 for 1 month now, and I have to say that when it comes to perfection, we've reached the top; fuel consumption 4l6, in constant gear, a delight to drive, and electronic perfection of course, with a little clattering on the gearbox like the other bikes...
it's really only the price that makes you hesitate...
the pan honda; 110000kms at 130 it takes up the whole road a fiesco for a bike of this price
the same goes for the FJR, whose suitcases are add-ons; it's written inside not to exceed 130, but in fact you need 145 to take up the whole road, and it eats up 6 to 7 liters if you're reasonable Rating : 5/5 Respond to pn
I now have a BMW K1600 GT with 28,000kms in 1 year. Superb handling, reasonable fuel consumption: 5.8L/100.
Black points:
- request for engine reprogramming (which was billed to me), as it was knocking both on acceleration and throttle cut-off, with the rear tire stalling
- The starter no longer started the engine... change of starter wheel under warranty
- cruise control no longer worked. Left-hand cooker replaced under warranty
- now consuming 1.5L of engine oil every 5000kms... that's a lot.
BMW service is horrible. They always look down on us like we're losers.
The bike doesn't handle well and the comfort is just right.
This is my first BMW, but I think I'll go back to Honda and their PAN, which is less technical but much more accomplished.
P.S: since I bought this bike, BMW has withdrawn the Motorrad sign from my dealer, whom I had chosen for his seriousness. Rating : 2/5 Respond to derien

The K1600GTL is more at the dealership than on the road... problem initializing the keys, replacement of the control units, start of the problem September 2012, solution May 2013! Currently stuck at the dealership again (for 3 weeks), won't start when it's in the sun... comodos problem (known on several models of the brand) but no parts in stock and no announced delay. BMW doesn't care about its customers, and lives up to a reputation it doesn't deserve. Other areas of dissatisfaction: transmission noise, clattering gearbox, no reverse gear, no electric stand. But pullman comfort, flexibility and engine power without reproach. Conclusion: Too much on-board technology, poorly mastered by the brand, the technical department unresponsive to problems, unacceptable for such a high-priced vehicle. This will be my only BMW Rating : 1/5 Respond to Papylou
it's an exceptional bike Rating : 5/5 Respond to JP
Is it possible to find out where you had your motorcycle debrided? It is very difficult to do this operation, unlike the k1300s.
Thank you very much. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
Two criticisms that join the other comments: the clatter of the gearbox and the jerks of the transmission. A transmission damper would have been welcome.

This bike could be a very good machine, but the clatter and play in the transition are unbearable.
In 35 years of motorcycling, I've owned a dozen machines, and I've never encountered such annoyances.
BMW considers that the problem is (conceptual) therefore normal and that no modifications are planned.

It replaced a K 1200GTL. Too bad no more electric stand or reverse gear. But it's much easier to handle.
One regret: it's impossible to know when the rear armrests will be available. According to BMW France's customer relations department, a part is missing for the assembly kit, but that shouldn't be long now. Well, it's already been over a month since I received this reply ....

- very happy with the handling and engine behaviour, just great
- happy with comfort, audio system not great
- disappointed with the wind protection, your hands and feet get cold very quickly, and the rest too
- very disappointed with the dealer, very nice to sell, then takes you for a fool as soon as you go back to the garage. \'m'even charged for the 1000km check-up, I couldn't believe it for a machine of this price

Great satisfaction in terms of handling (it's a moped) and of course in terms of comfort (rider and passenger), there's no contest.
However, the engine power is a big disappointment (the model we tried out was 106 HP, the model available in France), and we can feel that this machine is lacking. I was also disappointed by the transmission, which clatters a lot.
I'd considered upgrading to this model, but I think I'll go back to a 1300 or wait a bit for improvements. BMW did a good job between the 1200 S and 1300 S models, so why not in the 1600 range?
To sum up, a satisfactory test drive, but nothing more. Rating : 3/5 Respond to gégé
i had the opportunity to try it out for a weekend and frankly, it didn't take 10 km to be seduced by this marvel!
it's true that it's a bit scary at first because it's so imposing, but once you're on it, you feel like you're riding a moped, so easy to handle and drive. The only thing you can say against it is its price: 23,000 euros is quite a budget, but it's worth it! BRAVO à bmw d\' avoir sorti se salon a 2 roues... Rating : 5/5 Respond to gilou
And the big problem is transmission noise, which really hurts me because I feel like I'm losing something, and then in town when following cars it's a horror, even pedestrians turn their heads.
And now when I pass 1st gear, what a noise I hear, I feel like the gearbox is going to fall on the floor, I really miss my Pan 1300.
i have a strong urge to return the keys and helmets to my dealer, and go back to Honda.
What a disappointment for my 1st European motorcycle.
