presentation of the Panigale V2 SP 2027
The Panigale V2 SP isn’t what you think it is. It’s not here to strut its stuff like a diva in an evening gown or to serve as a premium version designed to enhance the road and the riding experience (even if it does play on that a little). It’s actually Ducati’s entry point into the SuperSport class. Ever since this championship moved away from 600cc bikes to accommodate a variety of engine configurations and displacements, the Panigale has sought to carve out its own niche with an approach different from that of the 748 and 749. In the SP version, the bike has been fine-tuned.
Before we look at the features of this special edition, let’s take a look at this machine’s “winter” look. Not that it’s afraid of anything—far from it—it’s just the name of its black livery: Winter Test. A nod to the World Superbike machines, which don this sort of livery during the off-season, without their official decals. Ever since the 1198 SP, Bologna’s sport bikes have embraced this “nighttime” look when released as Sport Production models.
As a result, the gold fork hypnotically catches the eye—even more so than the white-finished wheels. Ducati explains that this color choice “limits” heat absorption at the front, contributing to more consistent tire performance on the track. As it turns out, Suzuki was 40 years ahead of the curve with its white rims on the RG 250 Gamma (1985)...
Entering corners faster
That’s not where the Panigale V2 SP derives its enhanced performance, however. More than the color, it’s the material of the rims that makes the difference. These are forged aluminum Marchesini rims, which are 1.5 kg lighter. They provide a significant gain in agility, reducing inertia during cornering by 27% at the front and 21% at the rear.
The swingarm, meanwhile, focuses on stability. On the Panigale V2 SP, it’s 30 mm longer, which reduces the tendency to wheelie and shifts more weight to the front. Then, the Öhlins suspension (carried over from the V2 S) will be able to do its job—which it does brilliantly. The NIX 30 inverted fork is fully adjustable, as is the rear shock absorber. Both systems do without electronic control, leaving it up to the rider to fine-tune the setup—something many riders appreciate on the track when seeking pure performance.
Speaking of performance, does the SP rely entirely on its chassis, or does the engine get a power boost? Well, it doesn’t get any extra horsepower, but Ducati equips it with an STM EVO-SBK dry clutch. It produces a cooler, clanking sound reminiscent of the Ducatis of yesteryear… But the main benefit lies elsewhere: more precise engine braking, improved anti-wheelie performance, and smoother clutch disengagement.
To get more than the 120 bourrins from the 890 twin with variable valve timing, Bologna invites you to try its Corse Performance oil, for a gain of 1.2 ch, as well as its racing exhaust, which adds 6 ch and shaves 4.5 kg off the bike’s weight.

A Panigale V2 SP (officially) weighs the same minimum of 176 kg as the S model on which it’s based. However, the wheels should bring that weight down to 174.5 kg. A minor detail, to be sure, but we’re being picky here.
Just as we’d like to see Brembo calipers newer than the M50s. Well, OK, the brakes are powerful—very powerful—and they’ll slow down the bike just as much as they’ll tire out your arms. But since then, Brembo has introduced the Stylema and then the Hypure. For a bike aimed at championship racing, a small upgrade to the braking system would be welcome.
The bike also gets a tall windscreen, providing a bit of comfort on long straights, as well as a carbon-fiber openwork clutch cover.
As for the electronics, they’re also based on those of the Panigale V2 S, with 4 riding modes, traction control, wheelie control, and engine braking, an Up & Down shifter, cornering ABS, a launch control system, and a speed limiter for the pits.
It’s aiming high
The very purpose of the Ducati Panigale V2 SP is to offer its rider greater precision in handling but, above all, to prepare for the WorldSPP, where the Yamaha R9 reigns supreme while ZXMOTO has made a sensational debut. Ducati cannot stand idly by, and here is the first element of its counterattack for 2027.

Riding Modes:
- Race: designed for track riding on high-grip asphalt. When Race mode is selected, the rider can count on 120 ch, with direct Ride-by-Wire response upon opening the throttle. Race mode offers minimal electronic intervention without compromising safety, featuring Level 2 ABS without wheel-lift control and the “slide by brake” function, controlled sliding during braking that allows the motorcycle to safely lean into the corner.
- Sport: The rider can count on 120 ch with a sporty Ride by Wire response during acceleration. The electronic controls are calibrated to perfectly assist the rider when riding on dry roads. Rear-wheel lift control during braking is engaged, and the Cornering ABS function is calibrated to deliver maximum performance in corners.
- Road: Recommended for use on low-grip surfaces. The electronics provide the rider with 120 ch of power and a progressive Ride-by-Wire response, similar to Sport Mode. The default setting for the electronic controls is calibrated to offer maximum safety by ensuring optimal grip and stability.
- Rain: Designed for slippery surfaces, such as in the rain. With Low Power mode—which is enabled by default—the Ride-by-Wire response is significantly softened, and the intervention of the DTC, DWC, ABS, and EBC systems is even more gradual. Maximum power is limited to 95 ch.
Of course, the rider can customize the Riding Mode settings and then restore the default settings.
