presentation of the 1050 SPEED TRIPLE R 2012
at first, it was just supposed to be a fun evening. Miss Daytona 675 R had invited the spirited 1050 Speed Triple for a drink. We chatted about 3 cylinders, drank another one, stroked the tank, didn't know what we were doing... and when it was time to leave, the Speed Triple realized that its ride had changed quite a bit.
upon waking up from the hangover, the roadster received a phone call from the Daytona R:"What have you done to my fork, 'foiré!?!" And then it all makes sense. That optimized handling, that agility, that lightness. After that evening, the Speed Triple is now also tattooed with the sporty R.
the Speed is fitted with a NIX 30 inverted fork and TTX36 shock absorber from the famous Swedish manufacturer. There's also a red-painted rear frame like on the Daytona 675 R, a few carbon parts (radiator scoops, airbox cover, front mudguard), and above all new PVM forged aluminum wheels, 1.7 kilos lighter. Combined with Brembo monobloc brakes, Speed claims a 5% increase in braking efficiency. Dynamically, this new, optimized wheel and suspension combination promises nothing but the best. The roadster should be impressively lively. This Speed Triple R inaugurates the new gearbox that will eventually equip all Speed 1050 models. The 135-hp 3-cylinder engine is now even more sporty, and its three-cylinder blast never ceases to captivate rider and backbone alike.
there's just one small detail, but it's of the utmost importance here: the price. At around 15,000 euros a piece (with or without ABS), the price of a hypersport, the Speed R is not cheap. And yet, when you look at the on-board equipment, it's clear that the British roadster doesn't eat you up. Not only does the overall efficiency go up a notch, the quality of the components flatters the retina as much as the sensations, but the extra cost can be considered very reasonable. If you buy these components separately, you'll be looking at an extra 5-6,000 euros on top of the price of a normal Speed Triple.
