presentation of the 700 MT-07 2018
You don't change a winning team. And when the most mutinous of the team tops the sales charts, we're exceptionally careful before touching anything. While Yamaha has taken the liberty of making the MT-09 II more incisive, the MT-07 II is far more cautious. Of course, there's always room for improvement. But touching the cocktail of fun, pleasure, ease and fun inherent in this roadster must be done with care. How did Yam go about it?
As I said, with tact and timidity. From theold to the new, it's more a case of grooming than evolution. Miss MT-07 will barely have spent an afternoon at the hairdresser's. And in a way, that's a good thing. And in a way, that's a good thing, because this bike has been a crowd-pleaser since its inception. However, the brand has endeavored to give it more cachet, presence, authority almost, with a much less sluggish front end. All that's needed is the headlight from the ex-MT09, and that's it. While this optic was somewhat bland on the first 850 MT, it's a much better conclusion here.
The side scoops take on greater importance, drawing the air much further forward, and the visual effect generated by these shapes rounds out the back of the machine. It's as if the MT-07 II had been swimming for hours or had taken up lightweight wrestling.
The essentials are revealed. The rest of the modifications are expressed in detail, for the curious eye or the casual observer. A simplified front mudguard, a revitalized rear end, revised radiator covers, turn signals that move when you get close... I think we've covered everything.
So
In any case, it's better, because you won't be able to resist playing with it for long. The MT-07 is one of the best machines for starting out on the big bike, and staying there. A devil of a bike, it's a joy to ride, with a lively right wrist. The CP2 block, set at 270°, knows how to best distribute its 75 horsepower. Neither more nor less, it delivers exactly what's needed. Yam hasn't touched it either.
Same power, same technology, same mission. In addition to powering the MT-07, it also supports the tubular steel frame and swingarm. Weight also remains the same, at 182 kilos wet. And it's the same story for the dashboard. There's no change of scenery when it comes to the full digital display.
Phase II of the MT-07 has no intention of altering the verve of this friendly machine. Certainly not! Success makes you cautious. For a manufacturer, not for those who'll be throwing gas at it(be careful though ;-). The technical underpinnings are virtually unchanged. The Yam will confirm its achievements and its near destiny, with readjusted suspension and a less junkie, more star-of-the-evening look. Perfect for asserting its dark, Gavroche side.
*recall campaign*****
On July 31, 2018, Yamaha launched a recall campaign for its MT07 as well as its road-going ' Tracer 700 ' and neo-retro ' XSR700 ' variants.
The screws securing the drive chain housing to the swingarm could loosen and fall out due to vibrations while riding the vehicle. In addition, there was a possibility that once the fixing screws had fallen out, the chain case would break when it hit the drive chain. In extreme cases, the broken part of the chain guard could fall onto the road and hinder traffic. To counter this, Yamaha has launched a recall campaign to replace the chain case spacers and fixing screws.
For the French market, a total of 8,871 machines have been recalled.

After all, it's a 700 roadster, not a 1000 racer, so power and speed are "limited"
But anyway, in theory, in France you can't go faster than 130, so... Not really important (you'd have to be willing/able to go up to 190 with this one...). Rating : 5/5 Respond to CodeKiller
