presentation of the R1 1000 World GP 60th Anniversary 2022
it' s been 60 years since Yamaha first entered Grand Prix racing. A long time. During that time, the Iwata brand has won 500 Grand Prix races. Today, who remembers the color of the RD 56, the bike that led Phil Read to a world title?
Almost the entire R family. In 2022, four models will bear the red and white colors intimately linked to Yam's racing history.
the R1 is the model that best defends this heritage. It's the most powerful, the most technically advanced, the delight of many a competitor... and quite simply, it's one hell of a machine. With the special "Speed Block" color, it pays homage to the 60s and 70s. A period when this combination of colors was the manufacturer's identity on the racetrack.
A number of small details complete this dress. This vintage R1 has matt gold rims, a yellow "number plate" fascia and a badge on the tank mentioning the anniversary it represents.
ten years ago, the R1 had already celebrated decades of GP racing. This sexagesimal version is an opportunity to note the technological gap established between the two representatives. Almost 20 horsepower separate them, with the latest generation spitting out 200 horsepower at 13,500 rpm. The previous model had no ABS, but traction control and three injection maps. Since then, the electronics have been enhanced with a 6-axis inertial unit, angle-sensitive ABS and traction control, an Up&Down shifter, engine braking management, several riding modes, glide control, a standing start assistant, a (small) color TFT screen, wheeling control, magnesium rims and styling similar to that of MotoGP's M1.
yamaha associates this deco and the 2022 special series with some big names. Read, Ivy, Saarinen, Agostini, Roberts, Lawson, Rainey, Lorenzo, Rossi, Quartararo- and so many others who have found glory on the racetrack. Names engraved in history, an R1 envious of their stories.
