presentation of the Concept 9Cento 2018
BMW's concept bikes are never insignificant. With the exception of the Vision Next 100, all recent prototypes heralded imminent production models - the"Lac Rose" for the R NineT Urban G/S, the"101" for the K 1600 B, the"Stunt" for the G 310 R, the"Ninety" for the R nineT Racer... Will it be the same for this 9cento? That's a delicate question, and one that's almost certain to be answered, as the machine cleverly plays on its styling exercise silhouette to underline a possible production launch. Without stretching the imagination too far, we quickly grasp where the German brand wants to take us. Towards a small S 1000 XR.
Presented at the Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance, the "Nove Cento" is a perfect illustration of its creators' desire for impertinence. Cut like a sprinter, lightened by a short tail and menacing with its waspish head, it leaves no doubt as to its pretensions as a sports machine. The front end also speaks volumes. The Öhlins inverted fork is finished off with Brembo radial calipers and wide brake tracks. The gumshoes fitted here have the same grunt.
But beyond these muscular considerations, the 9Cento abounds in cool little styling effects.

In addition to the striking design, BMW has given its concept bike a number of beautiful machined aluminum parts, including a superb center console, rear luggage rack and footrest plates. The rear mudguard has forgotten its function and has been transformed into a shark fin.
This Sport Tourer Adventure is now called 9cento. Will it become the F 900 XR tomorrow? The brand would like to offer a beautiful machine that would be the perfect complement to the S 1000 XR. Indeed, Bavaria's big sporty trail bike is not lacking in assets or power, with its 4-cylinder derived from the hypersport S 1000 RR. But the price and engine power may put you off - 165 hp, that's quiet!
With its twin-cylinder engine, probably that of the reworked F 850 GS (and re-bored to 900 cc?), the power promises to be less intimidating, yet still playful. The price would also be more affordable. BMW would thus be playing on the Yamaha 900 Tracer's turf.
