presentation of the GRANPASSO 1200 2008

the GranPasso unveiled at the Milan Motor Show not only expands Morini's offering in the 2-wheeled market; it also enables the Italian brand to tickle the selective market for large trail bikes. In this sector, the BMW R 1200 GS dominates the market and sets the benchmark. The transalpine riposte will come from 2 sides: Moto-Guzzi will attack the road/comfort side with its 1200 Stelvio, while Morini has chosen a sportier approach without forgetting the road/trail aspect.
A wide, comfort-inspiring saddle, long-travel suspension, tubeless spoked rims with mixed tires, a windshield with a certain protective disposition, a 25-liter fuel tank and an engine block: the Gran Passo seems ready for touring, and even a bit of trail riding. The optional suitcases, GPS, heated grips, etc. won't make you shy away from the miles.

but an Italian car is above all distinguished by its temperament. And sportiness and character have not been sidelined on the Morini Trail. Its chiseled, aggressive build has none of the gentility of a Varadero. The styling (from the Marabese Design studio) is bold and daring, even disturbing with its lenticular headlights - a matter of taste - and does the essential: Morini GRANPASSO 1200 2008. Its Star Trek-esque posterior, embellished with a raised pot with 3 orifices, also plays with the eye. But beware: visual appeal is only a prelude to the promised performance. The 1200 engine is the same as the one powering the Corsaro, a spirited roadster in its own right. No power or torque figures yet, but we're sure they'll be adapted for a rounder ride.
Apart from their travel, the suspensions are more reminiscent of a hypersport than a trail bike: side-mounted Öhlins shock absorbers with adjustable compression, preload, rebound and height, 50 mm-diameter inverted forks -> this Italian trail bike promises to be highly efficient. The braking system is wiser, more suited to this type of machine: 2-piston Brembo calipers bite into 2 front discs, 298 mm in diameter, but controlled by a radial pump.

since the demise of the Guzzi 1100 Quota, Italy had kept a very low profile in the leggy segment. But in just a few years, the tide has turned. Multistrada, Tre-K, SMV Dorsoduro, Stelvio, and now Granpasso - there's something for everyone, and this Morini won't just be making up the numbers.
