presentation of the 1200 Manx R 2026
One of the most famous names in racing is back: MANX. This bike was a weapon, and its longevity on the racetrack was exceptional (from 1932 to 1963). Norton had created what was to become a huge chapter in the sport, and a legend in its own right.
It's a powerful symbol to use this name to introduce a new sports car. Norton intends to focus on its history to promote the future. Which is already..... surprising.
Introducing the Manx R, the successor to the 1200 V4 SV. Why R? Because there's a new nomenclature for the English brand. This letter is there to identify the sports bike; otherwise, the name refers to the roadster. In short, it's already getting complicated.
Let's return to the hypersport of the revival. But first, stay calm, forget your memories of the Commando, the 750 JPN, the 588 F1, and let's discover the new age of Norton with this hot-blooded motorcycle with cold surfaces.
A slip of style
It's a stunner! The 1200 Manx R is a complete departure from the SV, as it is from Her Majesty's style. The design is smooth, too smooth. It's as if the pencil had seized upon a Ducati 1098 to modernize and streamline its silhouette. It's impossible to distinguish here the art of British style, ousted by a pencil stroke that's modern and refined to the point of limiting its consistency. It's not ugly, nor repulsive; but you could stick any Chinese or Indian brand logo on it and you wouldn't know the difference.
It's almost as if Jaguarboss Rawdon Glover and his woke break-up ideas have given Solihull's design team a few ideas. However, we're grateful to Norton for not giving in to the fin craze. The Manx R refrains from this type of appendage, to maintain fluidity of body and mind. In the same vein, the exhaust is remarkably well integrated underneath the bike, so that the view of the rear wheel is perfectly unobstructed.

Physically, there's plenty of room for controversy and debate.
The Manx's engine won't really calm the storm. It's still a 72° V4, like the previous sports car and roadster. Displacement remains unchanged at 1200 cm3. However, the engine manufacturers specify that this is a new block. The power figures bear witness to this, with 209 hp at 11,500 rpm and a hefty 13 mkg of torque obtained at 9,000 rpm. An impressive burst of watts capable of driving the bike to top-level performance.
It's also a gain of 21 horsepower since the V4 SV. The technical effort is definitely there. But performance is nothing exceptional. A CBR 1000 RR-R or an S 1000 RR will give you even more grunt with 200 cm3 less. The Manx R develops the same horsepower/liter ratio as a 2004 Yamaha R1.
Sleek on the outside, distinguished on the inside
However, Norton doesn't present its sports bike as a circuit killer (any more than its predecessor, whose virtue was only exercised at the Tourist Trophy). It's more of a road-going hypersport for distinguished riders. Riders who are sensitive to mechanical expression, but also to high-end attributes. That's where the Manx R comes into its own, with carbon sidewalls and front fender, a superb swingarm, Hypure brake calipers, a huge 8-inch color TFT touchscreen, a striking open-work fork crown and suspension of a certain level.
Öhlins? No, it doesn't. The Manx R prefers to buy from Marzocchi, who installs an inverted fork and a monoshock with semi-active electronic management. The suspension adapts automatically to the road profile, according to the riding modes available. At the end of these suspensions are BST carbon wheels shod with Pirelli Supercorsa V4 SP - agility and grip are boosted to the max.

As with any high-performance motorcycle, electronics are at every stage. Norton has taken just about everything off the Bosch shelf: IMU inertial unit, traction control, engine brake management, wheeling control, ABS cornering, drift control, anti-stoppie, cruise control, shifter, five Riding Modes, hill-start assist, Bluetooth connectivity, triple-sequence LED lights, keyless start and a locating system.
To stop its 204 kilos, the Manx R can count on 330 mm front discs. With Brembo in action, this is about as good as it gets for a production bike. Above that, it's all racing gear.
A new challenge for British sport
Norton hasn't said all there is to say about this Manx R. It itself still retains some secrets, and has yet to convince an incredulous world that another dimension of the brand has already begun. Except in terms of price, which is sure to be in line with its premium segment.
