presentation of the WR 450 F 2022
no change for the WR 450 F 2022. Yamaha's big enduro is based on the 2021 modifications, with revised claims. Its victory at the 2019 ISDE in Portugal and its numerous podium finishes in the World Enduro Championship are not enough; the WR 450 F wants to conquer more success, and to do so, it has been completely redesigned. It now benefits from cutting-edge technologies derived from the YZ 450 F motocross engine and chassis.
What did it get last year? Firstly, a lighter, more powerful block, an all-new aluminum frame with bilateral beams, sophisticated suspension and modified brakes. This enduro machine offers performance never before seen on a production bike.
with best-in-class specifications, the WR 450 F is just waiting to be put through its paces by experienced enduro riders who demand maximum engine performance, greater handling and lightness, enhanced stability, obvious cornering ability and exceptional braking..
lighter, more powerful, more compact 450 cm3 engine
the WR 450 F's engine was already renowned for its wide power range and exceptional torque, synonymous with impressive performance in all conditions.
For increased power that can be metered at all engine speeds, Yamaha engineers used the lighter, more compact YZ 450 F motocross engine, and made a number of key technical adjustments to satisfy enduro riders. The work focused on intake and exhaust, injection mapping and ECU ignition to deliver more usable and controllable power.
new cylinder head and piston design
the WR 450 F engine features a new, lighter cylinder head and a modified piston, resulting in a higher compression ratio. The compression ratio is 13.0:1, compared with 12.8:1 on the previous WR 450 F. Thanks to its long, straight forward intake, the WR 450 F's inverted cylinder head offers exceptional efficiency. For 2021, the shape of the intake port is redesigned, and the angles of the intake and exhaust valves are reduced from 21.5 degrees to 14.5 degrees. This creates a more concave combustion chamber, resulting in improved combustion efficiency and increased power across the rev range.

yamaha Power Tuner smartphone app for easy tuning
in 2019, the WR 450 F was the first enduro bike to feature advanced digital technologies with a connected device enabling engine tuning via your smartphone. The new 2021 model consolidates its leading position with the Yamaha Power Tuner app. Riders and mechanics can quickly and easily adjust the fuel/air mixture and ignition timing map. The machine can then be configured to suit track and weather conditions.
after downloading the Power Tuner app, which is free for iOS or Android systems, it's possible to fine-tune the engine's character via your smartphone. WR 450 F owners can thus benefit from optimum performance for fast tests and on technically challenging terrain. Riders can also consult and record a whole range of data, including diagnostics and running times, making the Power Tuner an indispensable part of their toolbox!
handlebar-mounted engine mapping switch
the 2021-2022 model is equipped with a handlebar-mounted mapping switch to instantly select a preloaded configuration while riding. This allows the rider to select the most appropriate engine behavior according to weather conditions and terrain variations, making the WR 450 F more versatile and controllable at all times.
compact electric starter
the WR 450 F's compact, lightweight electric starter allows the motorcycle to be set in motion quickly and effortlessly. This is particularly useful when starting on slopes and in competition.
high-tech injection system
the WR 450 F benefits from an advanced fuel injection system that has already been appreciated on the latest generation of YZ 450 F motocross bikes. The inverted cylinder head allows pure, fresh air to enter the latest Mikuni® injection system via a straight, forward-facing inlet. Equipped with a 44 mm injector body and a high-pressure electric pump, this injection system feeds the atomized air/fuel mixture into the new compact, high-compression cylinder head to deliver excellent riding performance at all engine speeds.
high-efficiency inclined radiators
to match its performance, the engine is fitted with high-efficiency radiators. To ensure efficient operation of this new, more powerful engine, Yamaha engineers have repositioned the radiators to bring a greater flow of incoming air. This airflow keeps the 450 cm3 single-cylinder engine at optimum temperature, for smooth power delivery throughout use. Also included is a thermostatically-controlled fan that cuts in as soon as necessary to maintain a strong, constant airflow when idling or in hot weather.
long, robust five-speed gearbox
the WR 450 F's five-speed transmission is designed for enduro riding, a particularly demanding discipline for both rider and machine. The WR's specific barrel and selector provide a better feel when shifting gears, while the improved, robust clutch offers superior longevity and consistent operation throughout the entire enduro competition, no matter how long it lasts.

compact exhaust for improved mass centralization
the WR 450 F's compact, lightweight inverted-head engine features excellent mass centralization, considerably enhancing the bike's liveliness and lightness. Equipped with an enduro-specific muffler, the wrap-around exhaust is a perfect example of how Yamaha's engineers have centralized mass to achieve greater power and handling.
lighter aluminum frame for sharper handling
the WR 450 F '21-'22, featuring an all-new lightweight aluminum frame with bilateral beams, incorporates the same technologies as the famous YZ 450 F. By using thinner spars and thicker downtubes, the rigidity of this frame reaches a specified value, in line with enduro practice. Specially developed engine mounts also enable this new chassis to offer improved response over bumps, and a feeling of optimized contact with the track surface.
reinforced front-end rigidity
other chassis adjustments, specific to the WR range, are applied. For example, the new fork crown is lighter, and the front wheel axle and handlebar mounts have been redesigned to deliver a more precise steering feel and improved grip. In addition, the handlebar position has been moved forward by 15 mm and lowered by 5 mm to facilitate shifting the rider's weight forward.
Latest-generation suspension
the KYB inverted telescopic fork with coil spring and speed-sensitive damping on the WR 450 F is currently considered the best front suspension system for off-road use. Based on the YZ 450 F, but with special settings, the WR 450 F has no trouble exploiting the increased performance of its engine. Featuring a damping system offering an ideal compromise between rigidity and shock absorption, this fork is a success.
the WR 450 F is equipped with a link-type rear suspension and a fully adjustable KYB shock absorber. Using enduro-specific settings, this rear suspension provides optimum traction at both low and high speeds, as well as extremely effective shock absorption.

as well as being faster, the 2021-2022 also brakes more efficiently. This saves pilots precious time when changing course. Like the YZ 450 F, the WR 450 F benefits from a stiffer front brake caliper with larger pistons (from 22.65 mm to 25.4 mm in diameter), a 25% increase in pad surface, and a redesigned 270 mm front disc that increases contact area by 16% without adding weight.
more compact multifunction display
the WR 450 F features a new, more compact and easier-to-read multifunction display. It includes an odometer, two totalizers, a clock and a stopwatch, as well as a useful new fuel consumption indicator. The high-contrast LCD display offers improved readability in all conditions. Its uniform design and reduced width and depth give it a sleeker appearance, enhancing the feeling of lightness from the rider's point of view.
lighter chrome-molybdenum steel footrests
the new chrome-molybdenum steel footrests replace those in stainless steel, saving 70g in weight. Further weight savings have been achieved thanks to a lighter front wheel axle, fork crown and handlebar mounts identical to those on the YZ 450 F.

what is the full weight? Rating : 5/5 Respond to Nico 044
I think the machine must weigh between 130 and 140kg fully loaded. But I can't confirm this, as the manufacturer doesn't mention this information.

A motorcycle magazine comparison of the wrf and crf weighed a verdic 112 kg for the wrf.
I've got one, and it's true that it's a little overweight compared with a 2-stroke, but it's top-of-the-range, it pulls like crazy, and if you want to have fun, it moves! Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
